If machines can be creative, what makes humans different?

In the workshop on the morning of December 3, many people mentioned how the rapid development of technology today affects the creativity of artists in literature and art.

That concern was raised in the scientific seminar, the topic of Ho Chi Minh City artists promoting creativity in implementing Conclusion No. 84-KL/TW dated June 21, 2024 of the Politburo on continuing to implement Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW of the 10th Politburo on "continuing to build and develop literature and art in the new period" .

How does AI affect the artist's creative process?

Ms. Minh Hue from the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association emphasized that the development of AI has created a new era of "human-machine co-creation", where the boundary between creators and creative tools is becoming increasingly blurred.

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has moved beyond the realm of technical research to become a popular creative tool in contemporary art, she said.

Her research shows that AI increases inspiration and creative flow. But it also brings with it a range of conflicting emotions: curiosity, excitement, but also anxiety, confusion, and even disorientation about the “true value” of art when technology is deeply involved in the creative process.

The trend of the times will pose a rather difficult question to artists in the new era: "If machines can create, then what is the difference between humans?". Answering that question is not easy and if they find a way, artists can be completely confident in bringing new cultural values to the new era.

Vietnamese folk dance is very beautiful, why not promote it?

During the workshop, dancer Vu Thi Quynh Giao expressed concern that Vietnamese folk dances are becoming increasingly rare in programs and activities in the city, while folk dance is the beauty of the city's culture.

She said that in the 1980s, the city's cultural centers advocated for teaching and popularizing Vietnamese folk dance in the community. Recently, she was very sad because private centers, even some city cultural centers, almost did not open classes to teach Vietnamese folk dance.

Instead, there is a proliferation of Chinese classical dance centers. She said people say there are things like trends, which are popular for a few years and then fade away, but the Chinese classical dance movement is still like a "trend" and is growing more and more.

When she went to Cao Bang for work, instructing some artists there about folk dance, Ms. Quynh Giao was very happy to see that on Cao Bang walking street, every night people practiced and performed together folk and ethnic dances. They also bought their own props and made their own dance costumes, which were very beautiful.

In the city, Vietnamese folk dance is becoming less and less popular. Even at cultural festivals in her neighborhood, she sees Chinese costume dance instead of Vietnamese folk dance.

"Learning Chinese traditional dance is very expensive because you have to buy the right costumes and props. While Vietnamese folk dance is very beautiful and still beneficial for practitioners to have a flexible, healthy body, why don't we find a way to replicate our beautiful dances?" - Ms. Giao wondered.

During the workshop, many issues were also raised about transferring more power to specialized literary and artistic organizations and associations. New plans for artists in many fields such as theater, cinema, literature, fine arts, architecture, etc. in the new era.
