Concentrate resources to ensure treatment for workers
On the morning of August 13, hundreds of workers of Bo Hsing Company Limited (Long Ho district), Vinh Long province were hospitalized with symptoms of vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, suspected to be caused by food poisoning.
They were taken to Hoa Phu Regional General Hospital for emergency treatment from the early morning of August 13. Ms. Le Hong Thuy (Hoa Tinh commune, Mang Thit) said: "After work in the afternoon, I felt a stomachache and diarrhea, but I thought it was because my stomach was weak and I had indigestion and food poisoning. When I went to work in the morning, I had diarrhea, vomited, and felt very tired, so the company took me to the hospital for emergency treatment."
Lying next to Ms. Thuy's bed, Vo Thi Diem My (Cai Be district, Tien Giang) said: "When I went to the hospital, I was given IV fluids and medicine. I vomited and had to go to the toilet a lot, so I lost strength, but after a day of treatment, I felt better."
According to doctors, most of the hospitalized cases had abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, suspected food poisoning, symptomatic treatment, and detoxification infusion. Of these, 32 cases required intravenous antibiotic treatment.
According to Dr. Vo Thanh Tan - Director of Hoa Phu Regional General Hospital, as of the afternoon of August 14, nearly 125 patients with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea suspected of having food poisoning were hospitalized. The hospital mobilized all doctors and nurses on duty to provide emergency care, in the context of the number of hospitalized patients being too crowded. "The hospital has only 50 inpatient beds, but more than 120 patients were hospitalized, so it had to arrange beds for 2 patients to share. The patient room had extra stretchers and beds arranged along the aisles to treat the patients. The hospital mobilized the highest conditions to receive and treat the patients according to the direction of the Department of Health. Up to this point, all patients suspected of having food poisoning at Bo Hsing Company Limited are in stable health" - Dr. Thanh Tan said.
In addition to Hoa Phu Regional General Hospital, other workers are receiving emergency treatment at medical facilities in the province. At Vinh Long General Hospital, the patients are being treated and are in stable health, with no abnormalities detected.
Hospital support for workers suspected of food poisoning
On the morning of August 14, the health sector of Vinh Long province reported an updated number of workers of Bo Hsing Company Limited (Long Ho district) suspected of being infected with food poisoning who had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment, which had increased to 223 cases.
According to Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang - Director of the Department of Health, as soon as receiving information about the cases of hospitalization suspected of being caused by NDTP, the Department of Health directed Hoa Phu Regional General Hospital to focus resources to ensure treatment for patients, detect severe cases for timely treatment, limit severe cases and help workers recover soon. The remaining medical facilities in the province are ready with the necessary conditions to provide emergency care for hospitalized workers and increase support for Hoa Phu Regional General Hospital when requested.
The Department of Health directed the Food Safety and Hygiene Department to preside over and coordinate with the Long Ho District Medical Center and the provincial CDC to quickly conduct an epidemiological investigation and collect food and disease samples for testing to find the cause of the incident.
At the same time, the Department of Health also requested BoHsing Company to notify all workers that if they have unusual symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc., they must go to a medical facility for examination and treatment, and avoid self-treatment at home.
Also on the morning of August 14, at Hoa Phu Regional General Hospital, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh and leaders of Bo Hsing Company visited, encouraged and gave each worker a gift. Mr. Tran Van Trach - Chairman of the Provincial Labor Federation, said that the unit also allocated funds to support hospitalized workers with 500,000 VND each.

Working with the Provincial Labor Federation, Deputy General Director of Bo Hsing Jen Yi Fan Co., Ltd. said that the incident was an unexpected one and the Company is actively coordinating with the authorities to verify and handle it. In the immediate future, the Company will visit and support each hospitalized worker with 500,000 VND/person, and in severe cases, a more appropriate level of support will be considered. In addition, the Company also ensures to pay salaries to workers during the time they have to take time off work to recover their health, and coordinates with health insurance units to support the costs of hospitalization and treatment for workers.
