Shivon Zilis has a particular interest in machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). After graduating from college, she began her career in financial technology at IBM in New York. She was one of the members behind the IBM Watson project, a computer system capable of answering questions expressed in natural language. She later joined the venture capital firm Bloomberg Beta, leading the data and machine learning team. Shivon Zilis was recognized on Forbes' Under 30 list in the venture capital category in 2015.

In a 2015 interview, USA Today described Shivon Zilis (then 29 years old) as having large eyes, minimal makeup, and wearing only simple jeans and a t-shirt. Zilis was so professional that throughout the interview, she rarely paused to breathe and spoke in complete, unembellished language.

Shivon Zilis describes herself as an unappealing investor who focuses only on dry subjects and analyzes everything logically, combining it with philosophy for logical reasoning and a holistic perspective.

However, Jonah Varon, co-founder of Newsle, a networking platform later acquired by LinkedIn, commented that, "Shivon Zilis possesses a unique combination of IQ and EQ," and that she's not entirely the workaholic she portrays herself to be.

In 2015, Shivon Zilis first met Elon Musk through a non-profit project at OpenAI, a company co-founded by billionaire Elon Musk. In 2016, she joined OpenAI and was the youngest member of the company's board of directors (as of March 2023).

In 2017, Shivon Zilis moved to Tesla as a project manager, focusing on AI deployment for self-driving cars and chip design. She later became the executive director of special projects at Neuralink, Elon Musk's neurotechnology company. In a 2021 speech at the University of Canada, Shivon Zilis called Neuralink the most complex yet fascinating thing she had ever encountered.

In November 2021, Shivon Zilis made a noteworthy post sharing that she had to use a real heart emoji instead of the usual heart icon on her phone. This was around the time she and billionaire Elon Musk welcomed their twins.

According to Business Insider, after publicly revealing his twins, billionaire Elon Musk mentioned the babies' birth on X. He wrote that he was doing everything he could to help with the population crisis.

"The declining birth rate is the greatest danger facing civilization to date," Elon Musk wrote on X.

Billionaire Elon Musk revealed the names and genders of his twins when they were 16 months old. In April 2022, Elon Musk and Zilis filed a petition to change their children's names to "the father's surname with a middle name from the mother's surname." At the time, both confirmed that they were not dating.

Having a third child with Shivon Zilis brings the total number of known children of billionaire Elon Musk to 12. Specifically, Elon Musk's 12 children include 6 with his first wife Justine Musk, 3 with his former girlfriend, singer Grimes, and 3 with executive Shivon Zilis.
