One day in mid-December, the construction atmosphere at many key transportation projects connecting to Long Thanh Airport was bustling and vibrant. Along routes 25B and 25C, thousands of engineers, workers, and vehicles and equipment were working in shifts continuously to accelerate progress and bring the project to completion as soon as possible.

Routes 25B and 25C connecting to Long Thanh Airport are being constructed urgently.
Routes 25B and 25C connecting to Long Thanh Airport are being constructed urgently.

Each section of the route is identified as a crucial link in the interconnected transportation axis linking the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 - Nhon Trach - Long Thanh - Long Thanh International Airport and the rapidly developing urban areas of Dong Nai .

According to the Project Management Board of Region 6, the project to upgrade and expand Ton Duc Thang Road (25B), the section from the Nhon Trach Commune Administrative Center to Quach Thi Trang Road, has now entered its final completion phase. After nearly two years of construction, the road surface has been widened from 9m to 44m, and the entire route, over 3.8km long, has taken shape, allowing for smooth traffic flow.

The entire basic infrastructure has been completed, with a synchronized system of signs and lighting installed; trees have been planted along both sides of the route, creating a neat and attractive urban appearance. Of the contract packages, package number 13 has reached 100% completion, and package number 7 is also accelerating towards completion. The project has a total investment of nearly 640 billion VND and a completion time of no more than 4 years.

Next, the project to upgrade Road 25B, the section from Nhon Trach to National Highway 51, according to the Dong Nai Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board, has a total investment of VND 1,493 billion, a length of 9.29 km, and a road width of 80 m. The main construction package, worth over VND 832 billion, is being undertaken by a joint venture between Vinaconex and Hanoi Electrical Engineering & Construction Trading Company Limited, with a contract duration of 400 days, and is expected to be completed in early 2026.

Currently, the contractor is simultaneously constructing the left main route, the right main route, and the left and right parallel roads. Technical infrastructure and drainage systems are being implemented concurrently; 11 out of 11 technical culverts have been completed, and the pedestrian underpasses have reached 28 out of 70 meters.

When completed, routes 25B and 25C will form a backbone transportation axis, shortening travel time from Long Thanh Airport to Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh.

The road surface structure of the left main route has been completed with a K95 base, the crushed stone base is almost finished, and approximately 5km of asphalt concrete paving has been completed. The concrete deck and expansion joints of Ba Ky 2 Bridge have been completed; Ba Ky 4 Bridge has completed 14/14 girders and 46/46 mass piles have been driven. 200/1,035 lighting poles have been installed.

Mr. Nguyen Linh, Deputy Director of the Dong Nai Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board, said: “Currently, contractors are working in shifts to speed up progress. The main section will be open for technical traffic on December 19th, and the remaining items will continue to be implemented at an accelerated pace.”

Meanwhile, section 2 of Route 25C, spanning 6.4km with a 61m wide cross-section and a total investment of nearly 1,264 billion VND, has been largely completed. This section intersects with Ring Road 3, and construction began in 2024, with completion expected by the end of 2025. It plays a crucial role in directly connecting Ring Road 3, the Inter-Port Road, and Long Thanh Airport.

The road surface has now been paved with asphalt, painted with lane markings, and equipped with signage. The road is now straight and smooth like a matte black silk ribbon, connecting with many of the area's main thoroughfares.

Next, the 25C road project, from National Highway 51 to Provincial Road 19, has a total investment of 647 billion VND, a length of 2.65 km, and a main road cross-section allowing a speed of 80 km/h. The main contract is being constructed by the Thanh An - Cuong Thuan IDICO joint venture. However, to date, only about 0.5% of the work has been completed due to land acquisition issues. Localities such as Phuoc An and Long Phuoc are accelerating land clearance efforts and resolving difficulties to hand over cleared land as soon as possible, but the delay in land acquisition makes it difficult to ensure the project progresses according to schedule.

According to the Project Management Board, upon completion, routes 25B and 25C will intertwine, forming a backbone transportation network for the Ho Chi Minh City - Nhon Trach - Long Thanh - Long Thanh Airport area, directly connecting to the largest international airport in the South. The routes will also connect to the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, National Highway 51, and the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, thus forming a strategic urban and logistics axis for Dong Nai province.

The journey time from Long Thanh Airport to Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh will be significantly shortened; freight transport capacity will increase sharply, creating momentum to attract investment into the Nhon Trach and Long Thanh industrial and urban areas. This is also an important piece in the development picture of the Southeast region, opening up new urban, industrial, and service spaces.
