Recent polls released on June 20th show that Democratic candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is receiving the support of 15-20% of voters within his party.
Although the survey numbers don't quite match the level of public trust in incumbent President Joe Biden, this finding is still surprising and raises concerns among Democratic Party members.
Internally, Democratic strategists are divided on how to deal with candidate Kennedy. Some argue that Biden should avoid focusing on Kennedy to prevent drawing public attention to him.
Meanwhile, opposing views argue that ignoring Kennedy's campaign progress is too risky. Even if not a worthy opponent, Kennedy could still influence and reduce the number of votes for the incumbent president.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., 69, is the son of former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and the nephew of the late U.S. President John F. Kennedy. On April 5, he filed his candidacy with the Federal Election Commission, becoming the Democratic candidate for the 2024 U.S. presidential race.
In the past, Kennedy Jr. faced criticism from Democrats for his skeptical views on Covid-19 vaccines. He was banned from YouTube and Instagram for allegedly spreading misinformation about vaccines and the Covid-19 pandemic.
