PRESSURE TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS QUICKLY
Chelsea's attacking force for next season is expected to have at least nine equally talented players. In addition to the existing players Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto, Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, and Cole Palmer, Chelsea have strengthened their squad with Estevao Willian, Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro, and Liam Delap during the current transfer window. Manager Enzo Maresca has not ruled out the possibility of further signings if another quality striker emerges on the transfer market.

The harsh reality is that any player on the aforementioned attacking list must make a clear impression, even an immediate one, to have any hope of competing for a place in the starting lineup. This is the most important detail to consider when discussing Joao Pedro's goals in the Club World Cup semi-finals.
Less than ten days ago, Joao Pedro was back home on summer vacation, relaxing on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro. He was informed on July 2nd that his transfer from Brighton to Chelsea had been finalized, just in time for the Club World Cup quarter-final registration deadline. Pedro immediately flew to the US for a medical check-up. By July 4th, Pedro was seen coming off the bench. His more than 30 minutes of play in the quarter-final (Chelsea beat Palmeiras 2-1) were considered "impressive" by experts. But the real impact came on July 8th – less than a week after the transfer was completed. Pedro started and scored both goals, helping Chelsea beat Fluminense 2-0 to reach the Club World Cup final.
Pedro's contract cost £55 million. Chelsea recouped £15 million by beating Palmeiras, then earned another £20 million by winning against Fluminense. If they overcome the final hurdle, PSG, in the final, Chelsea will earn another £30 million. And if Pedro succeeds in that match, Chelsea will not only recoup their investment but also make a net profit on the Joao Pedro deal. All of this happened within 12 days (from the completion of the transfer on July 2nd to the final on July 13th)!
ARE FIRST IMPRESSIONS DESTINY?
Pedro's first goal – a stunning shot into the top corner of the Fluminense net – came just 18 minutes into kick-off. His second was a powerful, confident strike and finish. After both goals, Pedro didn't celebrate, because Fluminense was the first club that introduced him to the world of football. Those were beautiful goals, both in terms of their technical value and the spirit behind them. Now, Chelsea fans are eagerly anticipating a different kind of beauty: Pedro celebrating explosively when he scores in the final against the best team in the world today.
A few years ago, English club Watford reached an agreement to buy Pedro before he had even played a single game for senior club Fluminense. The transfer was announced in 2018, although Pedro didn't make his English football debut until 2020.
It seems like destiny, as Pedro's first successes always came "in a spectacular way." The goals that took Chelsea to the Club World Cup final came in his first starts. His first goal for Watford came on his 19th birthday. Pedro helped Watford get promoted. And when he scored his first Premier League goal, it was the goal that ended Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's career at Manchester United. Immediately after losing 1-4 to Watford, Manchester United announced the sacking of their manager. Brighton bought Pedro for the highest transfer fee in the club's history. And Pedro scored for Brighton again in his first appearance, in a pre-season friendly (against… Chelsea), as well as in the opening round of the Premier League.
