Burmese buzzard, a wild animal listed in the Red Book, was accidentally caught in Thai Binh.

According to the Minh Khai commune police in Hung Ha district, Thai Binh province, on the afternoon of October 7th, they received a rare wild animal handed over by a local resident. It was a Burmese hawk – a species of wild bird listed in the Red Book of endangered species.


Specifically, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan (residing in Dong Lac village, Minh Khai commune, Hung Ha district, Thai Binh province) accidentally discovered a wild bird in his family's yard. Mr. Thuan reported it to the authorities.

Upon receiving the report, the police of Minh Khai commune, Hung Ha district, contacted the Forest Protection Department under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thai Binh province to organize the reception of this wild animal.

This is a Burmese kite ( scientific name Spilornis cheela), a member of the Accipitridae family, classified as a Group IIB endangered and rare forest animal. The Burmese kite is a wild predatory bird that was added to the Red List of Threatened Species in 2016.

The Burmese kite, scientifically known as Spilornis cheela, is a medium-sized bird of prey found in forested habitats throughout tropical Asia.

Upon receiving the Burmese kite, the authorities in Thai Binh province found it to be in good health.

Accordingly, the Burmese kite will be taken to the Ninh Binh Wildlife Rescue Center for continued care, nurturing, and conservation before being released back into its natural environment as per regulations.
