Aiming to lead the economy of Quang Nam

Thanks to favorable visa policies, intensified tourism promotion programs, and prestigious tourism awards from international organizations, the number of international tourists visiting Quang Nam is steadily increasing.

In 2024, the total number of visitors and tourist accommodation is estimated to reach more than 8 million (up 14% over the same period in 2023). Of which, international visitors are estimated to reach 5.5 million, domestic visitors are estimated to reach more than 2.52 million. Revenue from tourism and accommodation in 2024 is estimated to reach VND 9,200 billion (up 19% over the same period in 2023). Social income from tourism is estimated to reach VND 21,620 billion.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in 2024, localities and businesses have actively and proactively organized many activities and events to attract tourists to visit and relax in Quang Nam. Thereby, the total number of visitors and tourists staying in 2024 as well as a number of other important goals and targets of the tourism industry have exceeded the set plan.

"Quang Nam's tourism industry has experienced a strong recovery and breakthrough, regaining its growth momentum and beginning a new period of growth," Mr. Hong said.

Mr. Nguyen Hung - Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment commented that the development of the tourism industry will contribute greatly to the socio-economic development of Quang Nam in 2024, especially promoting the transformation of economic and labor structure. Gradually, together with the service industry, tourism will lead the economy of Quang Nam.

Currently, the structure of the tourism and service sector is on par (both reaching approximately 34%) and will continue to surpass the industrial and construction sector in the coming years.

Support is needed soon.

According to information presented at the Quang Nam Tourism Business Conference 2024, held in Hoi An City last weekend, tourism businesses still urgently need support and assistance to overcome difficulties and contribute to the overall breakthrough of the tourism industry in the coming period.

Mr. Phan Xuan Thanh, Chairman of the Quang Nam Tourism Association, said that generally, many businesses are still struggling with difficulties, especially in the financial sector, so the provincial People's Committee's policy of removing difficulties for businesses and investors needs to be re-evaluated.

The province should promptly utilize budgetary resources to implement a research project on tourist information for Quang Nam. Only then can we understand the current state of Quang Nam's tourism industry, as individual businesses lack the resources to carry out such a project.

On the local level, although Quang Nam province welcomed over 8 million tourists in 2024, Tam Ky city only received about 450,000 visitors, a very modest number.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Nam - Vice Chairman of Tam Ky City People's Committee said that the province needs to review the policy mechanism in the tourism sector. Quang Nam needs to review and build a network of key tourist destinations, prioritize promotion throughout the province and have specific policy mechanisms for these destinations. Otherwise, if resources are not spread out, many destinations will have similar products and will not create a breakthrough.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in 2025 the department will focus on advising on the development and implementation of a number of policies to support tourism development and events to attract tourists to Quang Nam. In particular, it is proposed that the Provincial People's Committee unify the policy of building mechanisms and policies to support tourism development in 2025.

This includes: Regulations on certain policies to support the development of green tourism and pilot programs to attract MICE tourists in Quang Nam province until 2030; and support for the development of community tourism associated with the construction of new rural areas in Quang Nam province until 2030.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong informed that the department has proposed to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to soon issue a circular providing specific guidance for a number of water-based recreational sports and adventure tourism.

This will create a basis for localities to guide and allow businesses, organizations and individuals to organize water sports and entertainment activities. Quickly develop and promulgate criteria and implement green tourism labeling for tourism businesses as well as develop and promulgate a set of criteria for rural agricultural tourism destinations.
