The model of brewing black glutinous rice wine and using the leftover mash to feed pigs, implemented by the family of Ms. Quách Thị Phương Loan in An Thạnh 2 commune, Cù Lao Dung district, Sóc Trăng province, has yielded good economic results.

The model of brewing black glutinous rice wine and using the leftover mash to feed pigs has proven effective in developing the family economy of farmer members in An Thanh 2 commune.

In recent years, many exemplary economic models have been widely adopted in the district, helping many farming households stabilize their economy and escape poverty. However, the most outstanding example in An Thanh I2 commune is the model of brewing black glutinous rice wine combined with pig farming to develop the economy of Ms. Quach Thi Phuong Loan, born in 1970, a farmer member of Son Ton hamlet, An Thanh 2 commune, Cu Lao Dung district (Soc Trang province).

She is a typical member and farmer, a pioneer and exemplary leader, mobilizing her family, relatives, and sisters in the neighborhood to strictly comply with all Party guidelines and policies, State laws and local regulations.

Coming from a family with a tradition of farming and small-scale trading, and classified as a near-poor family in the commune, despite numerous business failures, she remained undeterred, diligently studying and learning the art of brewing rượu (rice wine) passed down from her grandparents.

Initially, she brewed rice wine from regular glutinous rice to sell, but due to the increasing market demand for black glutinous rice wine, she was willing to learn and gain more experience in making black glutinous rice wine.

After many times of research and experimentation, she successfully made sticky rice wine and brought it to her family's own brand.

The black glutinous rice wine brand belongs to the family of Ms. Quách Thị Phương Loan, a farmer in An Thạnh 2 commune, Cù Lao Dung district, Sóc Trăng province. Utilizing the leftover mash (fermented rice residue) – the final byproduct of the glutinous rice wine distillation process – Ms. Loan uses it as pig feed.

She shared: "Through research, I found that black glutinous rice wine has many health benefits, so I boldly invested in brewing and selling it to develop my family's economy."

When brewing rice wine, she didn't know what to do with the leftover mash (the residue from the brewing process), so she came up with the idea of using the mash to feed pigs.

The daily sales volume of black glutinous rice wine fluctuates around 20 liters, priced at 35,000 VND/liter, generating an income of over 700,000 VND per day.

And the remaining wine lees - the final waste product - can be used to feed 1 sow and 14 pigs. Each year, her family earns more than 100 million VND from pig farming.

Within the group, she always plays the role of an active member, mobilizing other women to build effective models and initiatives, such as implementing a revolving fund within the group.

Every month, she proactively invites the women in the group to save 200,000 VND/person to help women in difficult circumstances borrow to pay for family expenses, with a total amount of nearly 6 million VND per month.

Through her practical work, from 2019 to the present, she has helped 23 women borrow revolving capital totaling over 138 million VND.

Through this, the female members of the cashew group have developed stable family economies, and annually, members of the group achieve 3 standards of the emulation movement and 8 criteria of building a family with 5 no's and 3 clean's.

Local authorities also highly appreciate Ms. Quach Thi Phuong Loan's business model and hope she will continue to develop it, contributing to the stability of the local economy in particular and the economic development of Cu Lao Dung district (Soc Trang province) in general.
