The patient is Mrs. PTY (Long Bien, Hanoi ) was diagnosed with breast cancer on both sides at the same time, which is considered a very rare disease. After consulting with the doctor, the patient decided to have surgery to completely remove both breasts and axillary lymph nodes to eliminate the risk of recurrence.

It is known that before, Ms. Y saw a small pink blood stain on her bra but did not feel any pain or discomfort so she ignored it. A month later, this sign recurred, along with an unusual discharge on her nipples. When she went to the hospital for a check-up, the diagnosis showed that she had a rare form of breast cancer in both breasts at the same time.

Given the patient's advanced age and underlying conditions of diabetes and hypertension, the surgical procedure required meticulous planning from the surgical team and presented more challenges compared to typical cases, from anesthesia and tumor removal to post-operative recovery.

The surgery lasted many hours, facing the risk of significant blood loss, requiring intense concentration from the surgical team. Thanks to their seamless coordination, the surgery was successful, offering the patient a chance at survival.

After surgery, the patient continues to be monitored and receive hormone therapy to reduce the risk of recurrence. If the results of the bilateral tumor biopsy assess the extent of tumor invasion and show no metastasis, she may not need chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

As a long-time expert in cancer examination and treatment, Dr. Nguyen Van Thang, Head of the Department of Gynecological Oncology, Central Obstetrics Hospital, emphasized that bilateral breast cancer is a rare disease, but can be detected early through screening.

Dr. Thang recommends that women over 40 should have a check-up every two years, while those with high risk factors (family history of breast cancer, genetic mutations) should be screened annually. Screening costs are low but provide immense value, helping to detect the disease at an early stage, increasing the chances of successful treatment and reducing treatment costs.

For women with breast cancer, doctors also recommend that women proactively undergo regular check-ups and screenings for early detection, making treatment easier and more cost-effective, while increasing the cure rate. For patients battling this disease, adhering to their doctor's treatment plan and trusting in the country's medical system will help control the disease better and achieve the highest treatment effectiveness.
