Many agricultural businesses in Da Nang City directly introduced their products to the Chairman of BELC supermarket chain - one of the largest supermarket chains in Japan.
On the morning of December 3rd, a meeting and trade promotion event took place in Da Nang City between the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade and a delegation from the Japan-Vietnam Business Association (JVBA). Also in attendance were agricultural and processed food businesses from Da Nang City.
The JVBA delegation included Mr. Shuichi Gomi - President of JVBA, Mr. Issei Harashima - President and CEO of BELC supermarket chain - one of Japan's largest supermarket chains specializing in agricultural products and food, and several other members of the delegation.

During the meeting, Ms. Do Thi Quynh Tram, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang City, stated that Da Nang's import and export turnover has continued to achieve positive results. In the first 10 months of 2024, Da Nang's import and export turnover reached US$2.8 billion. Of this, Japan accounted for 30% of the total import and export turnover. Da Nang City exports products such as seafood, textiles, electronic equipment, handicrafts, wood chips, children's toys, and other products to Japan.
In Da Nang City, there are currently more than 100 Japanese FDI enterprises with a total registered capital of approximately 1 billion USD out of a total FDI capital of 4 billion USD in Da Nang City.

“The Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade, with its assigned functions in the industrial and commercial sectors, wishes to support businesses in the city in connecting Da Nang's products to the Japanese market. If Japanese businesses have a need for connection, the Department of Industry and Trade is ready to act as a bridge connecting supply and demand,” said Do Thi Quynh Tram, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade.
Mr. Shuichi Gomi, President of JVBA, stated that Japanese businesses are very interested in Vietnamese products. However, there are still many difficulties in getting information about Vietnamese products to the Japanese market. Therefore, as a representative of the JVBA business association, we will support and promote trade between products from Da Nang in particular, and Central Vietnam in general, and the Japanese market.

During the meeting, many typical agricultural and food production businesses from Da Nang City directly introduced their products to the leaders of the BELC supermarket chain to seek opportunities to enter the food supermarket chain in Japan.
Representatives of the Japanese business delegation showed great interest in issues such as the production of diverse products according to specific orders, food safety standards, exports, and product scale.

The delegation representative also stated that after this meeting, they will return to Japan to discuss with the company and introduce strategic products for supermarkets, leading to further meetings. “ Among the businesses today, there are several products that we are very interested in, and we will certainly have private, in-depth discussions about them. In the future, BELC also plans to import products from Da Nang and Central Vietnam,” said Mr. Issei Harashima, President and CEO of the BELC supermarket chain, adding: “After two days of work in Da Nang, I have many directions for importing Vietnamese products to supermarkets in Japan. BELC also hopes to be a bridge bringing products from Da Nang in particular, and Vietnam in general, to Japanese consumers.”

BELC reportedly owns a chain of 142 food supermarkets throughout Japan. The company specializes in selling high-quality agricultural products. Several Vietnamese products, such as processed coffee, have already entered the BELC supermarket chain, and shrimp will be added soon.
