Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi inspected the infrastructure and flood prevention work in the central area of Da Lat.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee inspected the field areas such as: Me Linh Lake (Cam Ly stream from Me Linh Lake to Lu Gia); Lang Lake No. 1, Lang Lake No. 3 and Da Lat Flower Garden area.

At the inspection sites, the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee listened to local reports on the actual situation and flood prevention work in the area.

Me Linh Lake is identified as the main drainage route for the Northeast area of Xuan Huong Lake (Lam Vien Ward - Da Lat). However, the stream bed has been silted up, trees have grown thickly, greatly reducing the flood drainage capacity, often causing flooding during heavy rains, affecting the health and lives of people in the area.

A similar situation occurred at Lake 1, where mud and waste silted up significantly, reducing the ability to receive water.

Garbage caught in the net created an artificial "dam", causing water to overflow Tran Quoc Toan Street into Xuan Huong Lake, causing local flooding in the surrounding area.

The area of Lake Lang No. 3, also known as Doi Co Lake, is also currently silted up. During the rainy season, this area is often flooded.

The reason is that the drainage system from the lake to Xuan Huong Lake has a diameter of only 1.2m, not enough to drain when it rains heavily. Rainwater rises and overflows the road, flows into Xuan Huong Lake, causing traffic jams and local flooding in the residential area upstream of the lake.

The Dalat Flower Garden area on Tran Quoc Toan Street is often flooded during heavy rains. The main cause is water from Lake No. 4 overflowing into the landscape lake in the Flower Garden area. Then, it overflows onto Tran Quoc Toan Street and into Xuan Huong Lake.

Lake No. 4 has been almost completely filled in.

Currently, Lake 4 has been almost completely filled in. The water channel system behind the landscape lake, as well as the drainage system across Tran Quoc Toan Street, have small apertures and are not capable of draining when heavy rain falls.

Not to mention, during the rainy season, garbage and water hyacinth are swept away by the flow, blocking the sluice gates, causing water to rise and overflow onto the road, causing localized flooding in this area.

According to the Da Lat Area Construction Investment Management Board, the main cause of flooding is the process of urban concreting, which reduces natural water permeability and increases surface runoff. Along with that, the reduction in forest cover and vegetation also makes drainage and flood regulation difficult.
