Western diners attach great importance to pairing drinks with dishes in their meals. Vietnamese cuisine can be flexibly combined with fine Western wines.Banh Xeo Banh Xeo is one of the most popular street foods in Vietnam, with simple, popular ingredients such as pork, shrimp, bean sprouts... Wine expert Yu Yamamoto from the Michelin Sommelier Award-winning restaurant Lua, recommends diners to try eating Banh Xeo with Italian Prosecco. Beef stew Beef stew is a dish originating from Saigon, often eaten with bread. With its distinctive flavors of lemongrass, star anise, and cinnamon, Mr. Yamamoto believes that this dish will be especially suitable when enjoyed with French Bordeaux BDX Merlot wine. Bordeaux BDX Merlot wine will enhance the flavor of beef stew served with bread.Beef Pho Few people can imagine beef pho - a traditional Vietnamese dish - goes very well with wine. Some types of wine suggested by expert Yamamoto are Cava sparkling wine or Blanc de Blancs champagne. The light aroma of champagne will enhance the delicious sweetness of beef pho. However, diners should also avoid some types of wine with tannic content because it will cause astringency, spiciness, bitterness, and overpower the clear taste of the pho broth. When drinking wine with pho, diners should choose a wine with less tannic acid to harmonize the flavors.Shrimp and pork spring rolls With fresh ingredients such as raw vegetables, cucumbers, carrots, shrimp and pork spring rolls will be suitable to drink with dry white wine from Germany, Riesling. This wine has a sour taste from citrus and fresh herbs, so it will be especially suitable for spring rolls. Besides, diners can also try combining with other wines such as Gruner Veltliner from Austria or Chablis from France. The fresh ingredients of spring rolls will go well with wines with citrus and herbal flavors.
