The conference provided information on the Ministry of Public Security 's plan to assign provincial and city police forces to take over existing drug rehabilitation centers in their localities. Currently, there are 97 drug rehabilitation and treatment centers nationwide in 60 provinces and cities.
The objective of the project is to leverage the combined strength of the political system and the entire population, with the People's Police as the core force, leading the work of drug prevention, control, and suppression, gradually curbing, preventing, and pushing back drug-related crimes and social evils.
At the same time, improve the effectiveness of drug rehabilitation and post-rehabilitation management, reduce the number of new drug addicts; strictly manage drug addicts in society, prevent the emergence of complicated situations, and contribute to building a safe and healthy social environment.
Following discussions among relevant provinces, cities, ministries, and sectors, the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs have agreed and signed an agreement to take over the management of this facility from March 1, 2025. Currently, Tuyen Quang province has one drug rehabilitation center located in An Khang commune (Tuyen Quang city) with nearly 150 trainees. The Tuyen Quang Provincial Police have been actively coordinating and preparing the necessary conditions to take over the state management of this drug rehabilitation center from the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs from March 1.
In his concluding remarks at the conference, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang requested that local police forces organize the reception and management of drug rehabilitation facilities within their jurisdiction according to the established roadmap; and implement tasks and personnel according to the Ministry of Public Security's plan.
Local authorities with drug rehabilitation facilities will continue to provide support for state management of drug rehabilitation and post-rehabilitation work to ensure maximum effectiveness and contribute to maintaining security and order in the area.
