On February 27th, information from the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee indicated that Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong had signed a decision on the conversion of forest land use for the implementation of the Coastal Road project connecting the East-West Economic Corridor in Quang Tri province - Phase 1 (Coastal Road).
Accordingly, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province decided to convert over 37.8 hectares of forest land to other uses for the project. This includes over 37.2 hectares of planted forest designated as protection forest and over 0.6 hectares of natural forest designated as protection forest. The conversion of the protection forest land for this area has already been approved by the Prime Minister in Document No. 211/TTg-NN dated March 31, 2024.

Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong instructed relevant departments and agencies to coordinate with local authorities to closely inspect and monitor the conversion of forest land to other uses in accordance with the law, ensuring that the scope and boundaries of the converted forest area are correct; implement reforestation and update forest changes for the converted area to carry out the aforementioned project...
The coastal road project was approved by the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee in December 2021 with a total length of over 54.9 km (phase 1 investment is 48.2 km), consisting of 2 sections.
Section 1 is over 42 km long, starting at the border between Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces and ending at km 42+162 (south of Cua Viet Bridge). In Phase 1, this section is over 36 km long, excluding the sections near Cua Tung Bridge and Cua Viet Bridge. Section 2 is over 12.2 km long, starting at the Southeast Economic Zone's main arterial road and ending at National Highway 1 at km 759, passing through Dong Ha City.
The project has a total investment of 2,060 billion VND, with the Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board as the investor. The project is scheduled for implementation from 2021 to 2026, divided into four packages passing through Vinh Linh, Gio Linh, Trieu Phong districts and Dong Ha city. Construction commenced on April 29, 2022, and contractors are currently carrying out the work.
