Binh Duong Club signs former student of Park Hang-seo: Finding the peak with Tien Linh?

The difficult career of former teammate Tien Linh

This season, Binh Duong Club added some names from the first division and V-League, notably Nguyen Trong Hung, who was Tien Linh's teammate in the Vietnam U.23 team that won the SEA Games 31 gold medal in 2019.

The midfielder born in 1997 plays as a left midfielder. He has received special attention and high expectations from coach Park Hang-seo as he regularly participates in training sessions of the U.23 Vietnam team and the Vietnam national team.

Debuting for Thanh Hoa FC's first team in 2019, Trong Hung quickly attracted attention when he immediately won a starting position, playing 24 times and scoring 3 goals. This performance helped him catch the eye of coach Park Hang-seo, regularly playing for the Vietnam U.23 team and training with the Vietnam national team.

Trong Hung was once expected to be the new Phan Van Duc of Vietnamese football.

Trong Hung's peak was the 31st SEA Games in 2019, where he scored 1 goal along with Tien Linh (6 goals), Duc Chinh (8 goals) to help the U.23 Vietnam team win the first men's football gold medal in the history of the SEA Games.

However, the career of the midfielder who was once considered the "new Phan Van Duc" was quite difficult after that, due to his weak physique, he was often interrupted from playing due to various injuries, big and small.

In the 5 seasons from 2020 to 2023-2024, Trong Hung only played 51 V-League matches, of which he only played once in the 2020 and 2021 seasons and only played 10 matches in the 2023-2024 season. In the 2024-2025 season alone, Nguyen Trong Hung was not even registered by Thanh Hoa Club.

These days, Trong Hung is at Binh Duong Club along with some new names such as Thanh Hau, Quoc Khanh, Viet Trieu... but still cannot practice with the new team because he has not fully recovered from his injury.

After parting ways with midfielder Hai Huy, Binh Duong Club is actively looking for quality additions to the midfield, as well as adding a winger while Vi Hao is in the process of treating an injury and will have to wait until next season to be able to return.

Hopefully, moving to a new environment will help Trong Hung escape the bad luck that has haunted him over the years and find his best form. At that time, Binh Duong Club will have a quality addition to more effectively serve Tien Linh up front.

One advantage for Trong Hung is that he will meet his old teammates who fought alongside the Vietnam U.23 team to win the 2019 SEA Games gold medal, such as Tien Linh, Thanh Hau, Tan Tai, Duc Chinh... so he is expected to soon integrate more into Binh Duong Club.
