U22 Vietnam (2-1) U22 Laos - Clip:FPT Play
U22 Vietnam struggled to win on the opening day of the men's football tournament of the 33rd SEA Games, facing U22 Laos at Rajamangala Stadium (Bangkok) on December 3. Coach Kim Sang-sik's team opened the score in the 28th minute, thanks to Nguyen Dinh Bac, but U22 Laos equalized 1-1 just 5 minutes later.
In the second half, U22 Vietnam continued to use their signature wing attacks and scored the winning goal, 2-1. Receiving a pass from Thanh Nhan on the right wing, striker Dinh Bac confidently dribbled the ball into the center and finished with a tricky shot, scoring his first double at SEA Games 33.

Dinh Bac shines with two goals
However, the second goal scored by the Nghe An player against U22 Laos was met with fierce controversy. At first, the linesman raised his flag to signal a foul because Dinh Bac's shot was aimed at Quoc Viet - a player who was in an offside position and obstructed the Lao goalkeeper's view when blocking the ball.
After the coaching staff and players of U22 Vietnam reacted, the main referee consulted with his assistant and decided to recognize Dinh Bac's goal as valid. This made the coaching staff and players of U22 Laos angry.

U22 Vietnam reacts to the main referee
SEA GAMES 33 football does not apply VAR technology. Many opinions say that the main referee Rustam Lutfullin (FIFA referee) "blows the whistle" to help U22 Vietnam win the match. Clause 2, Article 11 of the offside law mentions the case where a player in an offside position has an action that affects the ability of the last player on the opposing side to play such as: blocking the view, arguing, causing a loss of concentration... all violate the law.
Although Quoc Viet did not actively play the ball in an offside position, his action of jumping high to avoid teammate Dinh Bac's shot also made it difficult for the U22 Laos goalkeeper to block the goal.

Coach Ha Hyeok-jun of Laos U22 is upset with the final decision
However, many experts believe that in a match without VAR, the referee's decision is final. The assistant referees only have the duty to report errors, and the situation is up to the referee directly in charge of the match to judge the situation.
In the post-match press conference, coach Ha Hyeok-jun of Laos U22 expressed his indignation: "I don't understand why that goal was recognized. However, in football, we still have to respect the final decision of the referee on the field."
With 3 points, U22 Vietnam temporarily leads Group B. If U22 Malaysia wins U22 Laos with a difference of more than 1 goal in the next match of the group, coach Kim Sang-sik's team must win in the final match of the group stage to be able to take first place and a ticket to the semi-finals.
