Amazon plans to cut up to 30,000 office jobs.

According to Reuters , Amazon will begin cutting approximately 30,000 office jobs this week. This represents nearly 10% of the company's total office workforce of around 350,000 and is the largest round of layoffs since 2022.

Amazon is trying to cut costs after a period of massive hiring during the pandemic. CEO Andy Jassy wants to streamline the cumbersome management structure and increase the use of artificial intelligence to automate repetitive tasks.

The cuts could affect multiple departments, including personnel (PXT), operations, equipment, services, and Amazon Web Services. Some managers have been trained to notify employees via email starting Tuesday.

Amazon's program requiring employees to return to the office five days a week did not generate the expected number of resignations. Some employees who did not show up regularly were considered to have voluntarily resigned and were not eligible for severance pay.

Although AWS remains the most profitable segment, its revenue growth has slowed compared to competitors like Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.

US judge dismisses class-action lawsuit against Apple.

On October 27, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in California, USA, overturned a previous decision allowing tens of millions of Apple users to file a class-action lawsuit against the company for alleged App Store monopolistic practices.

Previously, users accused Apple of banning app purchases outside the App Store, leading to higher prices. The lawsuit included those who had spent at least $10 on apps or in-app content since 2008.

The judge ruled that the plaintiff failed to provide a reliable model to prove general damages. An expert hired by Apple discovered serious data errors, such as confusing two people with similar names and lumping together over 40,000 transactions by unrelated individuals named “Kim.”

The plaintiff's lawyers expressed disappointment and are considering further legal action. Meanwhile, Apple said it was pleased with the ruling and affirmed that the App Store is a safe place for users and a good opportunity for developers.

If upheld, the lawsuit could have resulted in billions of dollars in damages. However, with its dismissal, users will have to sue individually if they wish to continue.

Google Pixel is getting theme packs in the November update.

A new leak suggests Google will release theme packs for Pixel phones in the November update. This is part of its "Feature Drop" program – where Google periodically adds new features to the Pixel line.

This theme pack includes themes such as “For Good”, “Glinda”, and “Elphaba”. When a user selects a theme, the phone will automatically change the wallpaper, icons, sounds, and GIFs to match the theme.

Users will be able to turn any image into a GIF or animated sticker through the Pixel Studio app. A demo video shows that you can enter text to create an image, then press the “Animate image” button to turn it into an animation.

The Pixel VIP feature – launched in June – will be improved to prioritize notifications from VIP contacts in Google Messages and WhatsApp. Messages from VIPs will be highlighted in yellow and display their profile pictures in the status bar.

According to leaked screenshots, the update will be released on November 4th – in line with Google's annual update schedule.
