The new Sun Park at 614 Lac Long Quan Street (formerly Nhat Tan Ward, from July 1, 2025 Tay Ho Ward) has a total area of about 1.7 hectares, put into operation since February 7, 2000. Initially, the park attracted visitors to visit and entertain with many modern and attractive games.
However, since 2020, the park has been inactive. The equipment has been damaged and degraded, causing a great waste of materials and resources.

According to a survey by a reporter from the Hanoi Moi Newspaper, most of the infrastructure in the new Sun Park has seriously degraded. The amusement equipment is rusty, the operator's house and ticket booth are peeling and cracked. The giant Ferris wheel with a height of 50m and a radius of 10m, once the symbol of the park, is now covered with rust stains.
In addition, from the flying saucer areas, spiral ferris wheel, luxurious ferris wheel, swing carousel, tsunami, Thang Long steel dragon, sky train... to the ball houses, nightingale houses, and interconnected game spaces, all show signs of fracture and damage. The entire lawn and green trees have been "forgotten", not taken care of for a long time, so weeds grow wildly, trees fall down. Covering this once bustling park is a desolate scene.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh on Trinh Cong Son Street said: "While the city still needs modern parks to meet the entertainment needs of the people, the fact that the new Sun Park with its modern scale and prime location has become deserted, with its game equipment becoming a huge pile of waste is extremely wasteful."
To learn more about this issue, in early June 2025, a reporter from Hanoi Moi Newspaper scheduled a meeting with the People's Committee of Tay Ho District. On June 23, 2025, the reporter was informed by an officer from the District Office that the District People's Committee had assigned the People's Committee of Nhat Tan Ward to receive and provide information and documents to the newspaper.
On June 24, 2025, speaking to a reporter from the Hanoi Moi Newspaper, Chairman of Nhat Tan Ward People's Committee Cong Minh Tuan said that the new Sun Park was assigned by the City People's Committee to Hanoi Entertainment Services Joint Stock Company for business organization. Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the park has stopped operating since 2020.
Previously, on April 10, 2020, the Hanoi People's Committee issued Decision No. 1426/QD-UBND approving the task of making a detailed synchronous plan for the West Lake Water Park and the New Sun Park at a scale of 1/500. The goal is to divide functional areas, form an outdoor and indoor amusement park with the main items being the West Lake Water Park, auxiliary areas, comprehensive entertainment, and a landscape space axis connecting to West Lake.
In terms of function, the planning research area includes: Water park (renovation, upgrading on existing facilities), outdoor games area (renovation, upgrading on existing facilities), indoor service and entertainment area (additional research within the assigned land area), indoor auxiliary service area, outdoor auxiliary area.
On that basis, Hanoi Entertainment Services Joint Stock Company is leveling the ground and organizing the construction of a sports field within the planning of a sports service building with an area of 620.8 square meters in the planning area of the outdoor games area.
Thus, the future of the new Solar Park has been specifically planned. However, when the project will be implemented and completed so that the park will no longer be deserted and waste materials and resources is an unanswered question.
