A post about this issue has just appeared on social media, causing a stir in public opinion.
Hospital Rejects Dentist Degree
A former student of the Faculty of Dentistry, School of Medicine and Pharmacy, Duy Tan University, said that he had just graduated from the first course of this major in early October 2024.
When receiving their diplomas, many students wondered why the diploma said "Doctor of Dentistry" while they studied dentistry, and they complained to their teachers.
Another former student said that after graduating, when he applied for a job with his diploma, the hospital refused and did not accept his dental degree.
“I asked a former student who graduated from another school with a degree in dentistry and their degree clearly stated that they were a dentist. I was very confused,” he said.
Faced with the above information, many students and parents whose children are studying dentistry at Duy Tan University are also worried and wondering what degree students will receive after graduation.
School of Dentistry
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on November 24, Mr. Tran Huu Dang, principal of Duy Tan University's School of Medicine and Pharmacy, said that the above incident was caused by two "inconsistent" decrees.
One is Decree 99 of the Ministry of Education and Training, which stipulates the types of medical degrees including: general practitioner, traditional medicine practitioner, preventive medicine practitioner and dentist.
But then, the Ministry of Health issued Decree 96 stipulating the degrees to grant practice certificates including: general practitioner, traditional medicine practitioner, preventive medicine practitioner and dentist.
Mr. Dang said: “The school follows the decree of the Ministry of Education and Training and does not create this degree on its own. But when students apply for jobs at the hospital, they do not accept it as a dental degree.
The Board of Directors of Duy Tan University quickly worked with the Ministry of Education and Training, and finally we were able to work it out and agree on the exact degree of dentist.

Mr. Dang said that he and the school sympathize and share the concerns of students and parents when they enter a dental school, study for 6 years and graduate with a dental degree.
“The school has done its best, running around to get the results as soon as possible. We have reprinted new diploma forms. We will definitely reissue diplomas to students next week.
I also confirm that all students studying this major at the school will receive a degree in dentistry," said Mr. Dang.
Excellent graduation rate 23%, good 62%
According to information from Duy Tan University, in the first graduating class of the dental and maxillofacial department, 14 students achieved excellent results and 37 students achieved good results out of a total of 60 students.
The valedictorian graduated with an average score of 3.77/4.0.
