Updated at 4:30 am, pepper prices in the southern provinces fluctuated.

  • In Gia Lai , pepper price decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, down to 147,000 VND/kg.
  • Dak Lak and Lam Dong provinces also recorded a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg, bringing the pepper transaction price to 149,000 VND/kg. This is the highest pepper price in the country at present.
  • Pepper prices in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City remained stable compared to the previous day, at 148,000 VND/kg.

Pepper industry expert Hoang Phuoc Binh said that domestic pepper prices could reach VND200,000/kg next year. He said that pepper, or Vietnam's "black gold", is in its golden age due to a decline in supply and high international demand.

This situation stems from many farmers switching to growing coffee and durian due to pepper prices falling too low in previous years.
