Coffee prices today December 15, 2021: Recovering on world and domestic markets

Mr. Thai Nhu Hiep, Vice President of VICOFA, said that the current decline in coffee prices comes from the psychology of importers. They think that coffee prices are too high, so instead of buying for the whole year as before, they only buy according to actual needs. The weak demand from this causes domestic coffee prices to tend to be lower than coffee prices on the exchange.

Mr. Hiep also explained the difference between the export price of coffee and the price purchased from farmers. The export price of coffee is higher than the bulk price of coffee due to the addition of many costs such as processing and interest from long-term debt (deferred payment) contracts.

World coffee prices fluctuate according to weather and currency.

At the end of the most recent trading session, world coffee prices fell across the board.

  • Robusta coffee price in London for January 2026 delivery decreased by 36 USD/ton to 4,315 USD/ton.
  • Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor for December 2025 delivery decreased by 1.8 cents/lb, down to 403.75 cents/lb.

Robusta coffee futures fell to a 1.5-week low on Friday, Reuters reported, as the market focused on assessing the impact of recent storms and floods in Vietnam on harvest prospects.

Traders said the storm slowed the harvest in Vietnam and caused coffee cherries to fall. Some said the storm could reduce output by 5% to 10%.

The decline in Arabica coffee prices was limited by the strengthening of the Brazilian real against the dollar. The real’s appreciation has discouraged Brazilian coffee producers from selling for export.
