These days, the family of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoa, residing in Huong Phung commune, Quang Tri province, mobilized all the labor in the house and hired more workers to focus on harvesting 2.5 hectares of ripe coffee. With her hands nimbly picking the ripe red coffee berries, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoa happily said that this year's crop, her family estimated to harvest about 25 - 30 tons of fresh coffee. With the price of fresh coffee being purchased from 24,000 - 27,000 VND/kg, her family is expected to earn a profit of nearly 500 million VND. This year's coffee price has increased, so farmers are very excited after many years of falling prices.

Huong Phung Commune is the locality with the largest coffee growing area in Quang Tri province with about 1,600 households participating in planting. In the coffee gardens, the harvest atmosphere is very bustling and urgent. From early morning, people have prepared bags and tarps to go to the fields to harvest coffee when the fruit is ripe. According to garden owners, this year the weather is quite favorable, so the productivity and quality of coffee is stable. The average yield is about 8-10 tons of fresh fruit/ha, especially in households with good care, the yield is up to 12-15 tons/ha. After many years of deep decline in coffee prices, the past three years have increased again, bringing great joy to farmers. This year in particular, the price has increased to a record high, up to 24,000-27,000 VND/kg, with beautiful ripe coffee alone costing up to 29,000 VND/kg. With this price, after deducting costs, coffee growers earn hundreds of millions of VND/ha.

Vice Chairman of Huong Phung Commune People's Committee Phan Ngoc Long said that there are currently 2,100 hectares of coffee in the commune for harvest. Up to now, people have harvested about 70% of the area. The high coffee price has helped coffee growers earn more income, improve their lives, create conditions for reinvestment in production and maintain stable cultivation areas; at the same time, create jobs for thousands of seasonal workers. The locality has also increased propaganda and advised people to comply with techniques and ensure quality in harvesting; should not follow the market, harvest coffee when it is still green to avoid affecting the quality of fruit and productivity in the following crops.

In the coming time, the locality will continue to coordinate with the authorities to organize training courses on coffee planting and care; encourage people to increase the area of organic coffee, planting under forest canopy, agroforestry models, and intercropping with fruit trees to increase economic efficiency; at the same time, maintain and expand the area of coffee trees to about 3,000 hectares by 2030.
