On August 2nd, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development sent a document to the Plant Protection Department requesting support and plant quarantine for durian in Dak Lak province for the 2023 crop season.
Dak Lak currently has 22,500 hectares of durian orchards with a production of over 200,000 tons, harvested from the end of July to October each year. To date, durian harvests in other provinces are nearing completion, with only Dak Lak province entering its harvest season. Therefore, organizing plant quarantine for durian exports from Dak Lak province is reasonable and will help to tightly control the origin of shipments, preventing fraudulent use of planting area codes and packaging facility codes.

Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requested the Plant Protection Department to assign a unit under its authority to act as the focal point, appointing personnel and arranging specialized equipment to organize quarantine and carry out quarantine procedures at the local level for durian shipments from Dak Lak province in the 2023 crop year. Since the durian harvest in Dak Lak province is about to begin, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requested the Department to coordinate with the locality to complete all procedures and preparations (personnel, equipment, facilities, etc.) before August 5, 2023.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will arrange office space for the Plant Protection Department's working group during their quarantine mission in Dak Lak: offices, accommodation, and rooms for machinery and specialized equipment. We will provide the best possible support and favorable conditions for the Department's staff during the mission…
Previously, at a meeting between the Plant Protection Department and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Durian Association of Dak Lak province (July 21, 2023), the Plant Protection Department agreed to assign personnel and provide specialized equipment to organize quarantine and conduct quarantine procedures at the local level for durian shipments from Dak Lak. Regarding the establishment of a Plant Quarantine Station, which requires the formation of an organizational structure, this has not yet been implemented; the Department will consider this and report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development later.
