Students of Nguyen Tat Thanh High School (District 6, Ho Chi Minh City) prepare knowledge for the upcoming high school graduation exam.
The 2024 high school graduation exam will have 5 exams, including: 3 independent exams of math, literature, and foreign language; 1 combined natural science exam including the components of physics, chemistry, and biology; 1 combined social science exam including the components of history, geography, and civic education (for candidates studying the general education program at high school level) or the components of history and geography (for candidates studying the continuing education program at high school level). Among the exam subjects, only literature uses essay format, the remaining subjects use multiple choice format.
Candidates are required to take 3 independent exams: math, literature, foreign language and can choose one of 2 combined exams.
Candidates studying the high school program will be required to take 4/5 exams to graduate from high school, including 3 independent exams: math, literature, foreign language and choose one of 2 combined exams.
Candidates who are continuing education students are not required to take the foreign language test but can register to take the foreign language test to get the results for university and college admission.
For the combined exam, candidates can only register for one combined exam or component subjects in the same combined exam for independent candidates. Candidates can register for a foreign language other than the foreign language they are studying at high school.

2024 is the last year for candidates to take the high school graduation exam according to the 2006 general education program. According to current information from the Ministry of Education and Training, students who study which program will take the exam according to that program. Basically, the structure of the exam format remains stable as in 2023, but it is expected that there will be a reasonable increase in some content related to practical application in some subjects, to gradually approach the orientation of assessing capacity in accordance with the goals and requirements for developing learners' capacity and qualities, and gradually increase the level of differentiation so that the exam achieves the set goals.
Also according to the announcement of the Ministry of Education and Training, for candidates who have not passed the high school graduation exam in 2024 and previous years, the graduation exam will be organized according to the general education program that has been studied in the spirit of ensuring full rights of students in the high school graduation exam from 2025 onwards.
It is expected that the Ministry will issue the Regulations along with instructions for the 2024 high school graduation exam in March.
