This is an important frequency block for the development of public mobile information systems according to IMT standards, contributing to the construction of advanced and modern digital infrastructure, meeting the goal of developing the digital technology industry as set out in Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo .
Successful auction of B1-B1' band (758 - 768 MHz).
The official auction started at 2:15 p.m. Before entering the rounds, representatives of the National Joint Stock Auction Company No. 5 - the auction operator - disseminated detailed legal regulations, rules and procedures, ensuring transparency and compliance with the law for participating businesses.
After 02 rounds of auction, the winning enterprise for the right to use radio frequencies for the B1-B1' band (758 - 768 MHz) has been selected in accordance with regulations. The next legal procedures are being urgently completed by the National Joint Auction Company No. 5 to submit to the leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology for approval and official announcement.
Speaking at the auction, Mr. Le Van Tuan, Director of the Department of Radio Frequency (Ministry of Science and Technology), emphasized the strategic significance of the event. In 2024, we successfully auctioned and licensed the deployment of 5G networks with mid-band frequencies (2.6 GHz and 3.7 GHz). In early 2025, we continued to successfully auction the B2-B2' frequency block (713 - 723 MHz and 768 - 778 MHz). With these two auctions, the frequency capacity for IMT was increased by 94%, from 340 MHz in 2020 to 660 MHz in 2025, making Vietnam rank 4th out of 10 in ASEAN, just behind Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines."
Mr. Le Van Tuan, Director of the Radio Frequency Department, spoke at the auction.
Mr. Le Van Tuan added that the introduction of new frequency bands has significantly changed Vietnam's position on the world's mobile broadband map. As of July 2025, Vietnam's mobile Internet access speed reached 151.69 Mbps, up 26 places compared to the same period in 2024, ranking 18th in the world and 3rd in ASEAN (after Brunei and Singapore). Notably, according to Ookla's report, VinaPhone and Viettel entered the group of 3 fastest mobile networks globally in the first 2 quarters of 2025.
"The successful auction of the B1-B1 band will continue to support businesses in expanding mobile information coverage, especially in rural and mountainous areas, while improving the quality of indoor coverage in urban areas. This is an important premise to promote digital equality, bringing advanced technology to all people, from urban to remote areas, thereby continuing to improve the quality of national digital infrastructure, creating momentum for the comprehensive digital transformation process," Director Le Van Tuan emphasized.
The successful auction of these frequency bands continues to affirm the determination of the Ministry of Science and Technology in optimizing national frequency resources, creating favorable conditions for telecommunications enterprises to invest in network development, improving service quality, effectively serving the socio-economic development goals and realizing the National Digital Transformation Strategy, contributing to the successful implementation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo./
