Saigon Port announced that it is conducting research and proposing an investment plan for an international passenger port project on land belonging to the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi port area, Nguyen Tat Thanh Street (Ward 18, District 4). The proposed project covers approximately 68,618 m² of land, encompassing the entire Zone 3 and a portion of the K10 bridge extending to Nguyen Tat Thanh Street. The project will construct the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi international passenger port terminal, capable of receiving international passenger ships and cruise ships with a capacity of 1,000 passengers, and providing mooring for yachts. In addition, it will include a complex for management and operation, a plaza, a bus complex, and a ferry terminal parking area. The project is expected to have a total investment of VND 624.9 billion, with implementation scheduled from 2025 to 2027. Of this, the investor will provide 30% of the total investment, while the remaining 70% will be raised through commercial bank loans and other legal sources of capital. According to Saigon Port, the research and preparation of the investment proposal are currently underway and are expected to be completed and submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for consideration in the third quarter of 2024. The project aims to contribute to meeting the needs and attracting an increasing number of tourists visiting the city by international cruise ships. It will also connect the area with the city center, creating additional entertainment and recreational venues to serve the needs of local residents and tourists. "The project's implementation aligns with Ho Chi Minh City and the Government's policy of relocating cargo ports out of the central area and transforming the function of the old port area into an international passenger port. Therefore, the enterprise requests that relevant agencies consider, support, and agree to the research, implementation, and submission of the investment proposal for the project," Saigon Port requested.Regularly welcomes international cruise ships.
According to Saigon Port, in recent times, Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi port has regularly welcomed large international cruise ships such as the Seabourn Encore, 210m long and 28m wide, carrying 960-1,070 passengers; the Azamara Onward, 181m long, with 400 crew members and over 600 passengers; and the Silversea Cruises, 186m long with 290 crew members and 300 passengers. In addition, domestic cruise ships and restaurant boats offering sightseeing tours on the Saigon River operate at night, creating a vibrant atmosphere in the area. In response to tourism promotion activities, Ho Chi Minh City has also organized a series of tourism events to attract international visitors to the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi port area, such as the River Festival, which attracts thousands of participants. According to the forecast for sea passenger traffic to Ho Chi Minh City's seaports for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, approximately 101,500 passengers are expected to arrive at ports in the Saigon River area. This includes 81,200 international passengers and 20,300 domestic passengers. In addition to operating berths serving international sea and river passengers, the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi International Passenger Port project also aims to accommodate domestic passengers using domestic passenger transport routes serving riverside tourism in the inner city area and high-speed ferry routes connecting Vung Tau, Con Dao, etc. On August 12th, the Office of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City issued a notice summarizing the conclusions of the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Phan Van Mai, regarding the agreement to study the planning of the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi port in District 4 as an international passenger port.
