Record low minimum admission score
To date, numerous universities have announced their minimum admission scores (cutoff scores) for various admission methods. Among them, the most significant reduction in the cutoff score for the high school graduation exam-based admission method so far is 7 points for the veterinary medicine program at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry.
This is because this year, the school only set a minimum score of 16 for all majors, therefore, some majors will experience significant fluctuations.

The next significant drop was in the minimum admission score for the University of Science, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. The score ranged from 16-24 points (including bonus and priority points), with the semiconductor technology and integrated circuit design majors having the highest minimum score of 24 points.
Compared to 2024, the minimum admission scores for many majors have decreased by 0.5-6 points. In particular, the data science major, which had a minimum admission score of 24 last year, has dropped to 18 points this year.
Similarly, the University of Finance and Marketing sets a common minimum admission score of 15 points for all majors, a decrease of 1-4 points compared to last year. For the Economic Law major, the university requires an additional score of 6.0 or higher in Mathematics (or 6.0 or higher in Mathematics/Literature if both are included in the admission combination).
This is also the lowest minimum admission score for this school in the past three years. From 2022 to the present, the minimum admission score has always been around 16-19 points.
The University of Industry and Trade also lowered the minimum admission scores for some majors in the fields of management, economics, services, law, information technology, and languages by 1-4 points compared to last year's 16-20.
The minimum admission score for all majors at the university in 2025, based on high school graduation exam results, is 16 points (without weighting and before adding priority points).

Sharing her thoughts on the sharp drop in admission scores, Ms. Hoang Thanh Tu, Deputy Head of the Information and Communication Department, Faculty of Science, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, said that the significant decrease in the minimum admission scores for some majors compared to 2024 mainly stems from the noticeable changes in the distribution of scores in the 2025 high school graduation exam. This is especially true for subjects like mathematics, English, chemistry, and biology in the subject combinations commonly used for university admissions.
"When the average scores are no longer as 'manageable' as in previous years, maintaining a high minimum score will reduce the chances of candidates getting admitted," Ms. Tú said.
However, candidates should note that these are the minimum scores required to apply to the school. The actual cutoff scores will vary considerably depending on the number of applicants and the candidates' abilities. Therefore, candidates should not be complacent and should always prepare backup options.
The cutoff score may decrease slightly.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Phung, Deputy Head of the Admissions, Communications and Corporate Relations Department at the University of Finance - Marketing, stated that based on the score distribution of the 2025 high school graduation exam, it can be predicted that the cut-off scores for many majors, especially those in the economics, management, and engineering fields, are likely to decrease by 1-2 points.
According to her, given the situation, candidates shouldn't worry too much if their exam scores aren't as high as expected. The cut-off scores for many majors and universities will decrease accordingly, opening up more opportunities for admission.
"Candidates should carefully consider their preferences, choose subject combinations that offer a higher advantage in terms of scores, and prioritize applying to majors that match their abilities and interests," Ms. Phung shared.

According to Mr. Cu Xuan Tien, Head of Admissions and Student Affairs at the University of Economics and Law, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, majors with admission combinations involving mathematics, English, and chemistry will see a greater decrease in cut-off scores compared to other combinations.
Specifically, he predicted that, due to the sharp decrease in math scores for the A-group subjects (A00, A01), the cut-off scores for engineering and technology majors are likely to decrease by 1-2 points.
For Block B (B00), with the average scores in mathematics, chemistry, and biology all decreasing, the cut-off scores for medical, pharmaceutical, and natural science majors will also tend to decrease by about 1.5-2.5 points.
For Block C (C00), the scores for Literature, History, and Geography remain stable, so the cut-off scores for Block C are likely to fluctuate little, possibly decreasing slightly or remaining the same.
For Block D (D01, D07), neither the math nor the English scores have increased, so the expected cut-off score for Block D will also decrease by 1-2 points.
Consider carefully when choosing a major and a career.
Offering advice to candidates, Ms. Kim Phụng emphasized that it is important to note that universities, including the University of Finance and Marketing (UFM), always have many flexible admission methods and programs to ensure maximum benefits for candidates in this year's admissions.
After receiving their exam scores, candidates should proactively research the admission information of universities, such as previous years' cutoff scores, this year's quotas, admission methods, subject combinations, major codes, and any additional requirements announced by each university.
Analyzing your scores from the high school graduation exam, V-SAT exam, aptitude test, academic transcript, etc., is crucial for choosing suitable college options.

Ms. Kim Phụng advises candidates to prioritize majors and schools that match their abilities and interests, and to arrange their preferences in order of genuine desire. The first preference should be the major or school that the candidate likes the most.
The admissions system only considers applications from the first choice until the candidate is admitted, therefore strategic planning is essential. Candidates are not limited in the number of applications, but it's important to note that each major at each school can only be registered once.
To increase their chances of admission, candidates should register for a few more "safe" options with lower cutoff scores and consider combining different admission methods to avoid applying to only one major at one school.
According to Ms. Phung, thorough preparation and smart choices will help candidates be more confident and proactive in the university admission process. Regardless of the admission method, candidates will still study the same program in the same major, with the same lecturers and tuition fees.
Meanwhile, Master's degree holder Hoang Thanh Tu advises candidates to register for around 5-10 selective preferences, avoiding registering for too many which can cause confusion and lack of focus.
Regarding the arrangement, candidates should divide their preferences into 3 groups:
Your first and second choices are your most preferred majors, even if the cutoff scores might be high.
Choices 3-5 are majors that match your abilities, with cut-off scores fluctuating around your expected score. This is a "safe" group of choices.
From the 6th choice onwards, choose majors that are closely related to your interests or have a high chance of being accepted.
Although there is no limit to the number of preferences, the quality of the choices is the deciding factor. Candidates need to thoroughly research the majors, admission methods, and cut-off scores from recent years, and closely monitor information from universities to develop an effective strategy for prioritizing their choices.
Regarding admissions to the University of Science, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Tu stated that this year, for the first time, the university is applying a foreign language certificate conversion method for admissions based on the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam. If candidates have not yet submitted their foreign language certificates to the university, they can add them to the Ministry's system.
Regarding the minimum admission score, candidates should note the quality assurance threshold for semiconductor technology and integrated circuit design majors as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training .
