In a statement on the social media platform Truth Social on November 11, US President-elect Donald Trump announced that Tom Homan, who served as Acting Director of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency for 1.5 years during his first term, could continue in the position.
Donald Trump said that Homan would be responsible for the southern and northern borders, maritime and air security, and efforts to deport undocumented immigrants. This is a central part of the agenda that Trump pledged throughout his 2024 presidential campaign.

Responding to the nomination, Stefanik said she felt "truly honored" by Trump's announcement. Elected to the House in 2014, Stefanik was chosen to chair the House Republican Conference in 2021 after former Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney was removed from office. Since then, Stefanik, 40, has served in the role as the third-highest ranking member of the House leadership.
