(NLĐO) - On the evening of March 12th, the play "Waiting at the Human Life's Harbor," performed at the Gia Dinh Park Circus (Hoang Minh Giam Street, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City), attracted a large audience.
Actress Hong Trang and Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh evoked many emotions in the audience with the play "The Waiting Wharf of Life".
Audiences cheered for the play "The Waiting Place of Life" by author Vo Minh Hai, the graduation performance of director Vo Duy Luan (real name Vo Van Luan - a former student of director Le Thanh, and also a puppeteer at the Southern Art Theatre - now the Ho Chi Minh City Art Center).
Director Vu Duy Luan emotionally expressed his gratitude to his teachers, family, and the entire staff of the Southern Arts Theatre (now the Ho Chi Minh City Arts Center) for creating all the conditions for him to complete the work.
The performance reached its final scene amidst cheers from the audience as the boat of the old man who carries corpses, played by Hoài Linh, sailed onto the stage. The water system created a torrential rain, and the music, with the warm voice of singer Tiết Duy Hòa, filled the air, before the entire system lost power.
Many colleagues in the audience, including Meritorious Artist Thanh Hoi, Meritorious Artist Nguyen Cong Ninh, Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong, Associate Professor Tran Yen Chi, etc., were concerned about the power outage endangering the crew. However, Meritorious Artist Le Dien explained that it was a power outage from the power grid in the entire area. The moment of anxiety passed, and colleagues and audience members, using their phone flashlights, continued to cheer and applaud the performance, which was considered a daring act by Vu Duy Luan.
Actor Lam Nguyen (center) creates charming laughter in the play "The Waiting Place of Life".
Because the play's story, about human relationships in a poor riverside village, is quite simple, yet Vu Duy Luan chose to handle the stage setting of a circus. Therefore, the audience eagerly anticipated seeing the flashback scene of the Lanh A textile factory fire told with a high-flying fire-breathing performance, or being captivated by the scene where the two circus performers portray the character Con (Vo Ngoc Tan) diving to the bottom of the river to rescue Lanh (Bao Chau)…
Circus performers Kieu My and Minh Cuong delivered outstanding aerial acrobatics, enhancing the artistic impact of the play "The Waiting Place of Life".
Hoài Linh's character brought tears to the audience's eyes. His acting remains captivating, even though the characters he portrays are faithful to the type of country boy who is straightforward, accepts hardship, and is humorous.
"The Southern Vietnamese peasant roles that Hoai Linh has played have been loved by the public through plays such as: 'I'll Marry You in the New Year,' 'Six Banh's Heartache,' 'The Gentle North Wind'... and he will always develop his strengths to create laughter, along with reflections on life," commented Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong.
Actors Vo Ngoc Tan and Bao Chau delivered many moving performances in the play "The Waiting Place of a Lifetime".
Indeed, after watching Meritorious Artist Hoai Linh perform with such rich emotion, many people expect the play to be restaged, and the audience will be large because they still love Hoai Linh and his fellow actors such as Hong Trang, Bao Chau, Vo Ngoc Tien, Nguyen Hong Dao, Lam Nguyen, Lam Thang, Le Anh Bang, Phuc Zelo…
By cleverly utilizing the spacious area, transforming the circus stage into Ms. Lanh's incense-making workshop, a visually stunning design was created for the play "The Waiting Place of Life".
Associate Professor Tran Yen Chi commented that Vu Duy Luan had put in a great deal of effort in creating his graduation project at the circus. His artistic journey, from stage acting to water puppetry, has given him the opportunity to learn many valuable lessons.
Under the guidance of People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau, after the work "The Waiting Wharf of Life," Vu Duy Luan was able to progress in his role as a stage director. The happiest person was director Le Thanh, because she always hoped that her student would improve every day.
The performance clearly depicted Vu Duy Luan's serious dedication to his craft and apprenticeship. He is expected to go even further in his artistic career with his enduring contributions following this debut work.
