Many people work in air-conditioned rooms and continue using air conditioning when they get home. This habit means they spend most of their day in air-conditioned rooms.

Sitting in a cold room for extended periods can cause several health problems such as dry eyes, headaches, or allergic rhinitis.

Respiratory problems

In office buildings, poor ventilation can lead to building sickness, a condition that causes a range of symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, dry cough, hoarseness, allergies, nasal irritation, and other symptoms, according to the UK medical website News-Medical Net .

Furthermore, excessive exposure to cold air from air conditioners can cause changes in the respiratory tract, thereby increasing the risk of respiratory diseases such as bronchitis and asthma.

Dry eyes

Air conditioners significantly reduce air humidity. Meanwhile, eyes need moisture to maintain the tear film on the surface of the eyeball. This makes dry eye symptoms worse. Dry eyes can cause irritation, itching, blurred vision, and even infection.

Headache

People who spend almost 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in air-conditioned rooms are at a higher risk of headaches, including migraines. Some research suggests that about 3% of people who work in air-conditioned environments with poor air quality may experience headaches 1-3 days a month.

Allergy

The constant air circulation from air conditioners makes them breeding grounds for allergens like dust and bacteria. These allergens can trigger allergic rhinitis with symptoms such as itchy nose, sneezing, runny nose, headaches, sinus pain, and other symptoms, according to News-Medical Net.
