On October 27, in Tokyo, Japan, the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) officially opened (at 5 p.m.) and will last until November 5. The Vietnamese film delegation is led by Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan - President of VFDA, former Director of the Vietnam Cinema Department.

Members of the delegation include: Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City; Mr. Nguyen Hong Duong - Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Dang Ngoc Hau - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La Province; Ms. Giang Thi Hoa - Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Dien Bien Province; members of VFDA include: Mr. Dinh Trong Tuan, former Editor-in-Chief of the World of Cinema Magazine; Ms. Ly Phuong Dung, former Deputy Director of the Vietnam Cinema Department; Ms. Le Minh Tam - Vice Chairman of VFDA.
The participation of local leaders in cinema promotion programs is a testament to the common effort to bring the image of Vietnam and its people to the world by attracting domestic and foreign film crews to the locality.

The film Tunnels: The Sun in the Dark by director Bui Thac Chuyen was selected by the Organizing Committee of TIFF 2025 to be screened in the World Focus section of the Tokyo International Film Festival. This is also the first international premiere of this work. Director Bui Thac Chuyen, actress Ho Thu Anh, Diem Hang Lamoon appeared on the red carpet at the opening ceremony.
According to Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, VFDA and the Vietnamese delegation participating in and organizing activities at TIFF 2025 is a strategic step to promote the Vietnamese film industry in association with tourism and cultural industry development. Within the framework of TIFF, the Vietnamese delegation introduced the film booth at the TIFF Fair. The important highlights of the delegation were the workshop "Vietnam on screen: Regional voice, reaching global level" and the Vietnam Night program.

Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan said that the delegation will also have important working sessions with a number of partners, Japanese film organizations, the American Film Association... This is also an opportunity for VFDA to introduce and promote the 4th Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF), scheduled to be held from June 28 to July 4, 2026. It should also be added that the first DANAFF took Japan as the focal country.
Activities within the framework of DANAFF include: DANAFF Talents, which aims to discover and nurture young film talents in the region. At DANAFF III 2025, Project Market - Project Incubator was first implemented with the Asian Art Film Project Market and the Vietnamese Film Project Market under the guidance of experts from France and the US. In addition, the Talent Incubation acting workshop has also become a successful launching pad for many young actors.

Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan hopes that Vietnam will have more opportunities to cooperate with international film partners and organizations.

According to Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, coming to TIFF and prestigious film festivals such as Busan, Vietnamese filmmakers have more opportunities to learn experiences in building the film industry. VFDA is also a bridge between domestic and foreign filmmakers and localities to improve the film environment and develop the Vietnamese film brand.
