After traveling over 40,000 nautical miles, crossing the ocean 6 times, and competing in 14 races over 11 months, the Ha Long Bay - Vietnam sailing team from Quang Ninh province achieved an outstanding victory, finishing one point ahead of the second-placed team. They thus became the champions of the Clipper Round the World Sailing Race 2023-2024.

Stage 14 – the final stage of the race – is called “Homecoming”. It starts at Port Oban, on the West Coast of Scotland, and finishes at Portsmouth, on the South Coast of England – the home port from which the teams departed 11 months earlier.
Before Stage 14, the Ha Long Bay - Vietnam team was temporarily leading. However, there was only a 3-point difference between Ha Long Bay - Vietnam and Perseverance in second place. Zhuhai in third place was only 4 points behind Perseverance. This created an extremely tense and exciting final stage. To secure their victory, the Ha Long Bay - Vietnam team could not finish more than 3 places behind Perseverance in the "Homecoming" stage.

For more than half of stage 14, Ha Long Bay - Viet Nam was in 8th place and Perseverance in 3rd, a difference of 5 positions, meaning victory was very close for Perseverance. However, in the final sprint, Ha Long Bay - Viet Nam, with the effort and determination of the entire team, rose to 5th place, thereby narrowing the gap in the stage 14 standings to just 2 positions, enough to secure the overall victory. After many chases and position changes, this ranking was maintained until the end of the race.

Concluding the final leg – one of the most exciting, tense, fierce, and thrilling races ever, according to the organizers and sailors – Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, with just one point more than Perseverance, became the Champion of the Clipper Round the World Sailing Race 2023-2024.
Despite participating in the race only for the second time, the Ha Long Bay - Vietnam sailing team achieved outstanding results and deservedly won the championship. In their first participation in the 2019-2020 season, Ha Long Bay - Vietnam also performed exceptionally well, surpassing many other well-known teams to secure third place overall.

Participating in, becoming the destination port for race number 7 of leg 5, and winning the championship of the Clipper Round the World Sailing Race 2023-2024 is a fantastic opportunity to further showcase the heritage and wonder of Ha Long Bay and the image and tourism brand of Quang Ninh, Vietnam to the world, on par with famous tourist destinations where the race visits. It also helps promote the image of the land, people, and cultural beauty of Quang Ninh to international friends; and is an opportunity for Quang Ninh to continue promoting and attracting investment, especially in service and tourism projects…
