The Vietnamese national team will test their skills against Nam Dinh Club.

While the Vietnam U23 team is focusing on the 2026 U23 Asian Championship qualifiers, the Vietnam national team is also assembling to select players and refine their playing style in September. The team, led by acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh, will play a friendly match against Nam Dinh FC at 5 PM today (September 4th) at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center ( Hanoi ).

Despite only playing a friendly against a V-League team, the Vietnamese national team faces a tough challenge, as Nam Dinh FC boasts a staggering 11 foreign players in their squad, competing in four competitions: the V-League, the National Cup, the AFC Champions League 2, and the ASEAN Club Championship.

To ensure a high-quality friendly match for the Vietnamese national team, Nam Dinh FC's coach Vu Hong Viet fielded a full 11 foreign players, including seasoned veterans like Romulo da Silva, Caio Cesar, Percy Tau, and Kyle Hudlin. On the opposing side, acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh fielded many key players in the starting lineup, such as Duy Manh, Hoang Duc, Tien Anh, and Thanh Chung. Young goalkeeper Van Viet (born in 2002) made his debut.

Thanks to their tall, well-rounded foreign players with excellent tackling abilities, Nam Dinh FC dominated the game. After creating numerous opportunities, the team from Nam Dinh took a 1-0 lead in the first half thanks to a goal from Romulo following a well-coordinated play with Percy Tau.

Given the friendly nature of the match, the Vietnamese national team changed their entire lineup in the second half to test new players, while Nam Dinh Club kept their foreign players on the field to prepare for peak performance in the international tournament.

A heavy defeat.

With players like Van Vi, Gia Hung, and Du Hoc in attack, Hoang Anh and Viet Hung in midfield, Tuan Tai and Xuan Manh on the flanks, and Van Toi, Quang Kiet, and Hoang Phuc in defense, the Vietnamese team was unable to withstand the pressure from their opponents.

Nam Dinh FC scored 3 more goals thanks to Mahmoud Eid and Kyle Hublin (double) to win 4-0. In the third goal, Hudlin got past young defender Quang Kiet, before beating Van Chuan to score.

The very good quality of foreign players helped Nam Dinh Club take the initiative from start to finish.

With the fragmented pieces, mainly consisting of rookies who were playing for the national team for the first time, the failure of the Vietnamese team was relatively easy to understand. The 0-4 loss to Nam Dinh Club helped acting coach Dinh Hong Vinh and his team, coach Kim Sang-sik, see the shortcomings of the Vietnamese team. Although the rookies tried hard, played enthusiastically and aggressively, they could not show much.

Although the Vietnamese team coordinated quite well, their tackling was weak and lacked cohesion in their play. The connection between the defenders in defensive situations was also unstable. In the last 20 minutes, declining physical condition meant that coach Dinh Hong Vinh's players could no longer keep up with their opponents.

However, the players are hardly to blame. With so many foreign players in the squad, Nam Dinh FC is practically an international team at a very high level. The players have learned a valuable lesson to improve.

In their next friendly match on September 7th, the Vietnamese national team will continue to play an internal friendly. Their opponent will be Hanoi Police FC.
