At the invitation of the Japanese government, Ms. Truong Thi Mai, Member of the Political Bureau, Standing Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Head of the Central Organization Department, and Chair of the Vietnam-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group, led a high-level delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam on a visit and working trip to Japan from March 31 to April 3. The visit took place amidst a period of positive development in Vietnam-Japan relations, marked by the recent upgrading of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World (November 2023). During the initial activities of the visit, the delegation held meetings with Mr. Aso Taro, Vice Chairman of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, and Mr. Motegi Toshimitsu, Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party; received Mr. Shuhei Kishimoto, Governor of Wakayama Prefecture; and met with exemplary officials and Party members of the Party Committee and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan.

During the meetings, Standing Committee member of the Party Central Committee Truong Thi Mai informed about the important and comprehensive achievements in many fields of Vietnam after nearly 40 years of Doi Moi (Renovation), especially the outstanding achievements in socio-economic development, Party building and the political system, and foreign affairs from the beginning of the 13th Party Congress term to the present. Highly appreciating the strong, comprehensive, and substantive development of relations between the two countries after 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, Comrade Truong Thi Mai affirmed that Vietnam consistently values ​​the comprehensive strategic partnership with Japan; and is ready to cooperate with the Government, the Liberal Democratic Party, and other political parties and localities of Japan to develop bilateral relations in a deeper, broader, and more comprehensive manner, commensurate with the new position and level of bilateral relations. To further deepen Vietnam-Japan relations in the new phase, the Standing Committee of the Party Central Committee proposed that both sides, especially the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, leverage the roles of the two ruling parties in promoting the concretization of the high-level common understanding and important contents of the "Joint Statement on Upgrading Vietnam-Japan Bilateral Relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World"; strengthen political relations through visits and contacts of high-level leaders from both sides through Party, State, Government, Parliament, and people-to-people diplomacy channels; and promote economic cooperation and other fields, as well as local exchanges, to continuously progress in a substantive manner, in line with the sustainable development orientation of both countries. The comrade also expressed gratitude and hope that Japan would continue to pay attention to and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living and working in Japan.

Leaders of the Liberal Democratic Party and local authorities of Japan highly appreciated the visit of Comrade Truong Thi Mai and the high-level delegation of the Vietnamese Party, and strongly agreed with the proposals of the Standing Committee of the Party Central Committee to deepen and enhance the effectiveness of Japan-Vietnam cooperation. Japan always values ​​and considers Vietnam an important comprehensive strategic partner in the region; and is ready to work with the Vietnamese Party and State to improve the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation in various fields. The Liberal Democratic Party highly values ​​and is ready to promote friendly relations with the Communist Party of Vietnam; supports Japan's continued partnership with Vietnam in industrialization and modernization, strengthening the connection between the two economies and cooperation in fields oriented towards sustainable development and cooperation on international issues; and actively promotes local authorities and people's organizations of the two countries to strengthen exchanges, enhance understanding, and consolidate the foundation of friendship in Japan-Vietnam relations.

At a meeting with exemplary officials and Party members of the Party Committee and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, Standing Committee member Truong Thi Mai briefed them on the main aspects of domestic development, the Party and State's policies and guidelines on socio-economic development, foreign affairs, and the implementation of tasks set forth by the 13th Party Congress, as well as preparations for the 14th Party Congress. To ensure that Vietnam-Japan relations have reached their current level of development, Comrade Truong Thi Mai acknowledged and highly appreciated the positive contributions of the representative agencies. She also requested that the collective of cadres and Party members of the Party Committee and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan continue to uphold the fine traditions and achievements already attained, striving to excellently fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party and State, contributing to consolidating and promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership and friendship between Vietnam and Japan, ensuring its sustainable development for the benefit of the people of both countries and for peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world .
