According to the VNA special correspondent, within the framework of the official visit to the Republic of Singapore, on the afternoon of March 12, immediately after the talks, General Secretary To Lam and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, Secretary-General of the People's Action Party (PAP) Lawrence Wong, chaired a press conference to inform about the results of the talks and officially announce the upgrading of Vietnam-Singapore relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Speaking to the press, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore and PAP Secretary-General Lawrence Wong happily announced that the two countries have upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
On this occasion, the two countries also signed numerous documents on strengthening cooperation in preventing and combating transnational crime, enhancing cooperation on digital transformation, the digital economy, financial technology, the green economy, and renewable energy. Both sides expanded cooperation in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP), creating jobs for the people and continuing to encourage the development of smarter and more modern VSIPs in the future… This demonstrates the significance of the comprehensive strategic partnership and contributes to promoting cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at the press conference, General Secretary To Lam shared that the two sides had a very successful meeting, held in an open, frank, sincere, and mutually understanding spirit.
The General Secretary was pleased to note that after more than 50 years of diplomatic relations, including more than 10 years of Strategic Partnership, cooperation between the two countries has developed extensively in all fields, and political trust has increased.
General Secretary To Lam stated that with the solid achievements already made, based on mutual understanding and trust, shared interests and strategic priorities, as well as a common vision for security, prosperity, and sustainable development in the region, the two sides announced the upgrading of Vietnam-Singapore relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

This new framework will contribute to further strengthening political trust and opening up broader and deeper cooperation, making Vietnam-Singapore cooperation a model in international relations in the new era, based on respect for the independence, sovereignty and political institutions of each country as well as international law, bringing practical benefits to the people, and contributing to peace, stability and development of the region and the world.
Both sides reached a high degree of agreement on the direction for implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming period.
The General Secretary emphasized that since Vietnam joined the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Singapore has always been an important economic partner, accompanying Vietnam throughout its reform, opening-up, and development journey. Vietnam is proud to have Singapore as a friend and comprehensive strategic partner.

Earlier, General Secretary To Lam and Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, PAP Secretary-General Lawrence Wong, witnessed the signing ceremony of cooperation documents on the following agreements: a cooperation agreement on preventing and combating transnational crime between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore; a memorandum of understanding on digital transformation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Digital and Information Development of Singapore; a joint report on Vietnam-Singapore offshore wind power trade cooperation; a memorandum of understanding on strengthening cooperation in the field of financial innovation between the State Bank of Vietnam and the Monetary Authority of Singapore; a letter of intent for cooperation between the State Securities Commission and the Monetary Authority of Singapore; a decision on the policy for investing in the VSIP infrastructure construction and business project for Nam Dinh and Nghe An provinces; a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in research and proposal of investment projects in Ly Nhan district, Ha Nam province (Vietnam); and a tripartite cooperation memorandum between A*Star-Sembcorp-Becamex.
