Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance Cao Xuan Thu Van said that digital transformation has become an important focus worldwide .
In Vietnam, in 2020, the Government approved the National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with a vision to 2030, with the dual goal of developing a digital government, digital economy, and digital society, while forming digital technology enterprises with the capacity to reach out globally.
In that context, young people are a dynamic, creative, sensitive force, mastering science and technology; a vanguard, main force, creating breakthroughs and new values in national digital transformation.
Citing data from the National Committee on Vietnamese Youth, Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van said that young people currently account for nearly 21% of the population. However, the participation of young people in the collective and cooperative sectors, especially young people with formal training, is still limited.
Meanwhile, cooperatives in Vietnam have made significant progress in recent times, but more needs to be done to close the digital skills development gap.
“Therefore, the Project wishes to put young people at the center of the digital transformation process in cooperatives, thereby attracting more young people to participate in cooperatives, serving as a driving force for promoting digital transformation in the community and locality,” said the Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance.
The project is funded by the European Union, with a total amount of 624,933 euros and will be implemented over 3 years. The project aims to enhance the role of civil society organizations in enhancing digital skills and raising awareness among young people to accelerate the comprehensive digital transformation process.
The European Union Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier said that the European Union is pleased to support the Project to promote digital transformation for youth in cooperatives in local communities in Vietnam.
“This initiative will create opportunities for sustainable development and capacity building for the cooperative sector,” Mr. Julien Guerrier believes.
Specifically, the project will be implemented in 25 provinces and cities through the Cooperative Union of provinces and cities; of which 7 provinces and cities will directly benefit and 18 provinces will co-benefit from the project.
The project activities focus on applying an integrated approach to address challenges related to youth participation in cooperative governance and development; training on digitalization and digital transformation processes in cooperatives; developing digital transformation strategies in areas involving coffee cooperatives that produce along the value chain to share successful models with the Italian and international youth cooperative network.
The project’s results will create greater opportunities for innovation and digitalization; supporting 9.4 million cooperative members to gain knowledge and opportunities to implement digital transformation for sustainable development. The project will also help young people access information more easily so they can become members and workers in cooperatives, the representative of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance believes.
