Defending Roland Garros champion shockingly lost in round 1 of Wimbledon

The 21-year-old American was expected to surpass Sabalenka and climb to world number one soon. But with this shocking defeat, Coco Gauff will have to wait at least 3 more months to do that.

After the match, Gauff admitted that she had great difficulty in transitioning from clay to grass in a short period of time.

“I felt a bit overwhelmed mentally after the events in Paris, and maybe I didn't adapt in time,” Gauff said.

On the other hand, Yastremska could not hide her happiness. She shared that this was the biggest win of her career. She will face Anastasia Zakharova in the second round.

Not only Gauff fell, but Jessica Pegula (seed number 3), Zheng Qinwen (number 5) and the top two men's singles players, Alexander Zverev (number 3), Daniil Medvedev (number 9), all stopped early.

Since 2001, this is a record number of seeds eliminated in the first round at a Grand Slam.

In the latest match of the men's singles, Djokovic won 3-1 against Alexandre Muller. He will face home player Dan Evans in the second round.
