Although world coffee prices on exchanges reversed course and fell sharply last night and early this morning, particularly Arabica coffee on the New York exchange, experts believe the reason for this decline is that speculators felt prices had risen too high and were selling to take profits. According to information from the Brazilian Coffee Industry Association, global coffee prices are expected to continue rising in the coming weeks, at least until the harvest begins around April or May. The main reason for this price increase is climate change, which is negatively impacting the harvest. Higher consumption worldwide, along with the emergence of new consumer markets such as China, will also play a significant role.
Reports of hot, dry weather forming across Brazil's coffee-growing regions have driven coffee prices to new highs. Currently, the market is concerned about low coffee inventories in Brazil, which produces nearly half of the world's Arabica coffee. Farmers there have already sold approximately 85% of their crop and have no plans to sell more.
In the domestic market, as predicted by experts, coffee prices rose sharply today, despite a slight decrease in the previous session. With limited supply and continued rising world prices, many experts predict that domestic coffee prices could soon reach or surpass 132,000 VND/kg this week.
However, the market is also likely to experience a technical correction if hedge funds decide to liquidate their long positions after a series of rapid increases. Therefore, farmers and export businesses need to closely monitor market developments to make sound decisions and avoid risks when prices correct.
