On October 13th, the People's Committee of Xuan Huong Ward, Da Lat City, announced that it had extended the temporary suspension of Ms. Nguyen Thai Quynh Nga, the principal of Trung Vuong Primary School, for another 15 days to continue the investigation into allegations of using "unsafe food" in the school lunch program.
Previously, the People's Committee of the ward had decided to temporarily suspend Ms. Nga from her duties for 15 working days, starting from September 24th. Now that the suspension period has ended, the local authorities have decided to extend it to ensure that the investigation and clarification process is conducted objectively and thoroughly.
As Tuoi Tre Online previously reported, the school's kitchen staff for the 2024-2025 school year and some parents have accused Trung Vuong Primary School of allowing a supplier to provide substandard food, affecting the meals of 720 students.
In reports submitted to authorities, the school had previously mentioned several shipments "showing unusual signs," such as meat that changed color after boiling, shrimp with black heads, beef meatballs suspected of being frozen, and bones with an unpleasant odor.
The school claims the suspected batch of food has been returned or replaced with a different dish and samples have been retained as per regulations, while the whistleblower alleges that a batch of the food was already cooked and served to students.
Within the ward, an inter-agency inspection team has been established to conduct a 30-day inspection, starting from September 22nd, of all school canteens and food safety practices at educational institutions.
The inspection covered supplier records, contracts, food origin, the three-step food inspection process, sample retention, kitchen and storage conditions, personnel, and off-budget revenue and expenditure related to the boarding school program.
Regarding school operations, Trung Vuong Primary School has temporarily suspended its school lunch program since September 22nd due to suppliers requesting to stop delivering food.
Regarding this incident, on the evening of September 19th, the Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, Dinh Van Tuan, directed that the matter be resolved definitively. He requested the Lam Dong Provincial Department of Health and the Department of Education and Training to coordinate with the Xuan Huong Ward People's Committee in Da Lat to investigate and verify the issue, and to rectify the province-wide organization of school meals.
At the online conference on September 23, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi criticized the slow handling of the issue and requested the police, health authorities, and local government to investigate the quality of meals, food quality, and the responsibility of the leaders.
