Thai durian prices drop sharply in the Mekong Delta
The durian market on December 3 recorded a remarkable fluctuation when the price of Thai durian in the Mekong Delta region suddenly dropped sharply. Specifically, Thai durian type A was purchased by warehouses at 95,000 - 108,000 VND/kg , significantly lower than the previous day. Meanwhile, other types of durian such as Ri6 still maintained a relatively stable price.
This development occurred in the context of the market being in the off-season, supply was scarce, but export demand remained high.

Exports remain the main driver
Despite fluctuations in domestic prices, durian exports remain a bright spot in Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable industry. According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, fruit and vegetable exports in November 2025 are estimated to reach US$754 million, up 64.9% over the same period in 2024.
In the first 11 months of 2025, fruit and vegetable exports reached more than 7.8 billion USD, up 18% over the same period. Of which, durian alone contributed 3.4 billion USD , exceeding the turnover of the whole year of 2024 and affirming its position as the industry's number one export item.
Challenges from off-season supply
The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association said the durian market is in the off-season, with supply sharply reduced. This scarcity is forecast to last until March 2026.
The main reason was identified as many growing areas in the Mekong Delta being affected by flooding. In addition, the production cost of the off-season crop also increased by 10% to 15% compared to the main crop. Limited supply while export demand remains high may cause the durian market to continue to fluctuate strongly in the coming time.
