(CLO) A shocking theory is being put forward about the cause of the devastating wildfire in Los Angeles, which claimed the lives of 24 people and left 16 others missing.
Investigators believe the disaster may have originated from a fire that reignited after being extinguished earlier.
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, 24 deaths have been confirmed from the two major wildfires, Palisades and Eaton: 8 deaths from the Palisades fire and 16 from the Eaton fire. Authorities warn the death toll could rise as more people remain missing.

The fires started on January 7th, and new evidence, gathered by the Washington Post, suggests they may be linked to a smaller fire that occurred on New Year's Eve.
Satellite imagery and analysis by the Washington Post confirm that the Palisades fire broke out in the exact same location where firefighters extinguished a fire on New Year's Day, believed to have originated from fireworks.
According to the archived radio broadcast, a firefighter commented: "The fire started very close to the New Year's Eve blaze. It seems to have spread quickly."
This small fire, known as the "Lachman Fire," spread across an area of 8 acres (approximately 32,000 square meters) and was brought under control at 4:46 a.m. on January 1, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).
However, recent satellite analysis shows that smoke from the Palisades fire on January 9th coincides with the location of the Lachman fire, leading to the hypothesis that the New Year's Eve fire reignited.
Professor Michael Gollner, an expert in mechanical and fire engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, said: "In strong winds, it's possible that the smoldering fire reignited and caused a larger blaze."
In addition, many residents in the affected area expressed dissatisfaction with the slow response of the fire department during the second outbreak of the fire.
This view was also confirmed through radio recordings. With strong winds forecast to return this week, authorities are working to control the situation while continuing to investigate the exact cause of the disaster.
