Director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation announced his resignation.

On December 11, FBI Director Chris Wray announced he would resign early next year. Wray's announcement came after President-elect Donald Trump had previously stated his intention to fire Wray shortly after taking office early next year.

Mr. Trump also chose Mr. Kashmiri Patel to head the FBI.

Responding to FBI Director Chris Wray's resignation, Trump took to his Truth Social account to call it a great day for America and that it would end the weaponization of the Justice Department .

Chris Wray served for 10 years and was appointed by Trump himself during his first term, in 2017. Before Chris Wray, FBI Director James Comey was fired by Trump after investigating allegations that Trump's campaign had ties to Russia in the 2016 election.

Trump and his allies have criticized Chris Wray and the FBI after the agency raided his Florida resort to recover classified documents that had been kept after he left office.
