Nam Định entered the final matchday with only a slim chance of advancing. Their disastrous 0-2 defeat away to Ratchaburi in the previous match had cost them their fate. To progress, Nam Định needed a resounding victory against Eastern and hope Gamba Osaka defeated Ratchaburi.

Caio Cesar opened the scoring in the 2nd minute. By the 19th minute, Nam Dinh were leading 5-0 with further goals scored by Pham Ba, Hoang Anh, and a brace from Romulo.
Before the first half ended, Brenner managed to score a goal to increase the score to 6-0, causing Thien Truong Stadium to erupt in cheers.
In the second half, Nam Dinh continued to press the visiting team in an effort to score more goals and secure qualification. Striker Brenner was the most impressive player in the early minutes, scoring two more goals to give the reigning V-League champions an 8-0 lead.
Despite leading by eight goals, the V-League champions still needed more. In the final minutes, their relentless pressure paid off when an Eastern defender scored an own goal, increasing the score to 9-0.
At this point, Nam Dinh seemed to be following the script perfectly. The Vietnamese representative only needed to score one more goal to overcome their Thai opponents. However, the miracle did not happen. Nam Dinh FC finished the match with a 9-0 defeat and sadly bowed out of the AFC Cup.

However, the Vietnamese representative was still eliminated due to a lower goal difference. Nam Dinh only scored 14 goals (conceding 7) compared to Ratchaburi's 15 goals (conceding 8).
