Emotional and satisfying night honoring People's Artist Vien Chau

(NLĐO) - The artistic legacy of playwright and People's Artist Vien Chau is a vibrant source of material to honor him and promote Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera).

Ho Chi Minh City leaders congratulated the artists at the ceremony honoring playwright and People's Artist Vien Chau.

On the evening of November 4th, the art program "People's Artist Vien Chau - A Lifetime of Singing," directed by People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, took place at the City Theater (Ho Chi Minh City).

Attending and congratulating the artists were: Mr. Nguyen Ho Hai - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc - Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Tran The Thuan - Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City... and a large number of artists, generations of students of People's Artist Vien Chau from the Southern folk music movement to the Cai Luong stage, and the audience enthusiastically cheered the performances honoring the career of playwright Vien Chau.

This is an art program directed by the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Association and Ho Chi Minh City Television Station, and implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City Light Music Center, Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theatre, and the Arts and Culture Department of Ho Chi Minh City Television Station.

The public truly loves the works that People's Artist Vien Chau left behind, with over 2,000 vong co songs and 70 stage scripts. The creative team has selected representative pieces to tell the story of his life, his creative views, and the artistic tendencies he instilled in his vast body of work.

People's Artist Le Thuy said that the public, who love traditional Vietnamese opera, has bestowed many prestigious titles upon People's Artist Vien Chau: "King of traditional opera", "King of modern opera", "Music master", "Master artist", "Exceptional artist", "The creator of fame for singers"...

"To us, he was a dedicated, kind-hearted teacher who always cared for and supported artists, giving a golden touch to countless names so that each of us could have a place in the hearts of the audience and be loved," People's Artist Le Thuy confided.

She did not forget to thank him for the first traditional-modern fusion song he entrusted her with performing more than 60 years ago, and on this honoring night, the song "Who Is He?" was performed again as a "living witness" for the younger generation to better understand the value of his artistic work.

Traditional music ensemble honors composer and People's Artist Viễn Châu.

Playwright Viễn Châu was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist by the State in 1988, and in 2012 he was awarded the title of People's Artist.

In 2014, he was honored to receive the Third-Class Labor Medal from the President of Vietnam for his outstanding contributions to the art of Southern Vietnamese folk music.

The scene "The Southern Mother" deeply moved the audience.

The program achieved high quality and was recognized as a milestone in promoting, strengthening, and enriching the fine traditional cultural values ​​of "Southern Vietnamese folk music and singing," attracting further attention from organizations, individuals, and all strata of society to actively participate in preserving, conserving, and promoting the values ​​of "Southern Vietnamese folk music and singing" in conjunction with tourism development.

We pay tribute to the contributions of the late composer and People's Artist Vien Chau to the arts, who played a crucial role in promoting and preserving the national cultural identity of Southern Vietnamese folk music and singing, and who was recognized by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
