Where do the super-rich go on vacation?

VnExpressVnExpress26/12/2023

Billionaire Jeff Bezos loves Aspen, a famous ski town in the US, while the British royal family enjoys visiting the 1850 Courchevel resort in France.

Elisabeth Brown, a New York-based executive, runs a luxury travel company where clients pay $50,000 annually for membership. She says the most valuable asset for the wealthy is time. Therefore, affluent clients often prioritize giving gifts to loved ones during holidays like the Lunar New Year. These are the real luxury vacations.

Brwon once helped rent a private villa in Africa for a client and their family to vacation in, where the rooms cost $40,000 a night. "They just wanted to see what the best of the best looked like. Money wasn't an issue," Brwon shared.

Fashion designer Nicole Pollard Bayme, based in California and specializing in working with royalty, celebrities, and the ultra-wealthy on the Forbes list, says many of her clients "want to travel to space." According to Bayme, space travel represents the highest level of confidence a billionaire can demonstrate regarding their wealth. Two of her clients are about to fly into space and are preparing to participate in training with NASA astronauts. A seat on a Virgin Galactic space flight costs nearly half a million dollars. A spot on a Blue Origin rocket costs millions of dollars.

Winston Chesterfield, founder of the UK-based consulting firm Barton, said one client spent $500,000 so her daughter could fly anywhere she wanted for Christmas.

Another wealthy client booked a wellness trip with a cycling experience in Mallorca or a week-long stay in Austria. The cycling tour cost $6,000, while the hotel in Austria was priced at $2,500.

For those drawn to winter wonderlands, Aspen is often the top choice. This popular ski resort town in Colorado, USA, is a favorite destination for billionaires Jeff Bezos and Michael Dell. According to the Wealth-X research institute, Aspen has the highest concentration of properties worth $30 million or more in the United States. There's a billionaire for every 60 residents. Other popular ski resorts in the US, such as Lake Tahoe, are also favored by billionaires.

In Europe, top ski destinations such as Gstaad and Verbier (Switzerland), Kitzbühel (Austria), and Courchevel 1850 (France) are also frequented by the wealthy. Courchevel 1850 has welcomed A-list VIPs such as David and Victoria Beckham, Elton John, and members of the British royal family.

Chesterfield says the super-rich prefer to visit historic cities, enjoying high-end experiences like Kitzbühel's Zuma restaurant or Courchevel's Cheval Blanc hotel.

For those yearning for sun-drenched coastlines, the Caribbean is the ideal destination. St Barts, a popular spot for New Year's Eve celebrations, has hosted Jeff Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sánchez, yachts owned by billionaires David Geffen, Sergey Brin, Bernard Arnault, and Barry Diller and his wife Diane Von Furstenberg.

Some billionaires prefer the tranquility of resorts like Jumby Bay in Antigua or Aman in the Dominican Republic, where luxurious rooms cost between $2,700 and $13,300.
