Disease outbreaks are on the rise as the weather changes and there is more rain, creating favorable conditions for disease-carrying mosquitoes to breed.

This week, the Hanoi CDC recorded 9 new outbreaks in areas such as Tam Hung, Tay Mo, Xuan Phuong, Ba Dinh, Nghia Do, Chuyen My, Tay Ho... Many outbreaks have a high number of cases, complex developments, and insect indices in the monitored areas are all at risk levels.

The dengue fever outbreak in Hanoi is on the rise.

Health authorities have conducted surveillance, investigation, and treatment in several high-risk areas, including: the outbreak in groups 3 and 4 of Thuy Khue (Tay Ho district), which recorded 3 patients and was treated once after being identified on August 26; the outbreak in Gia Khanh village, Thuong Phuc commune (identified on August 25) with 5 cases; and the outbreak in Giang Cao village, Bat Trang commune (identified on August 27) with 2 patients.

Next week, the Hanoi CDC will continue to monitor and detect patients at healthcare facilities, through its software system, and in the community to promptly isolate, investigate, and handle cases and outbreaks, preventing the disease from spreading.

Areas with active outbreaks such as Van Dinh, Kieu Phu, Dan Hoa, and Hat Mon are also being closely monitored. Simultaneously, the unit is implementing Chikungunya prevention and control measures integrated with dengue fever through campaigns to eliminate mosquito larvae and pupae, and spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes at high-risk locations.

In particular, the mobile epidemic control teams of the Hanoi CDC will continue to be on duty during office hours and on standby outside of office hours until September 15, 2025, to ensure medical services for the Exhibition of Socio -Economic Achievements taking place at the National Exhibition Center (Dong Anh).

In addition, the CDC is stepping up activities to support the surveillance, investigation, and treatment of infectious diseases at the local level, while also monitoring environmental hygiene and disease prevention and control during the rainy season in localities.

Medical quarantine measures at Noi Bai International Airport have also been strengthened to detect suspected or confirmed cases of infectious diseases early, thereby enabling the timely and appropriate handling of these cases.

With the epidemic entering its peak phase, the Hanoi CDC advises people to proactively implement effective preventive measures such as avoiding mosquito bites, eliminating mosquito larvae, maintaining a clean living environment, and removing items that hold stagnant water.

Measures such as sleeping under mosquito nets, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and using mosquito repellent creams or sprays are recommended. Additionally, for those in high-risk and eligible groups, dengue fever vaccination is considered one of the effective measures to minimize the risk of contracting the disease and severe complications.

Currently, there are two dengue fever vaccines that have been pre-qualified by the World Health Organization (WHO). The first is CYD-TDV (Dengvaxia, Sanofi), intended for seropositive individuals aged 9 years and older; however, this vaccine has been discontinued in many markets.

The second type is TAK-003 (Qdenga, Takeda), licensed for use by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health since May 2024, indicated for people aged 4 years and older, does not require pre-vaccination serological testing, and consists of two doses administered 3 months apart.

According to research data, TAK-003 provides 80% protection after 12 months and up to 90% effectiveness in preventing hospitalization due to dengue fever after 18 months.

With the advantage of not requiring serological screening and being easy to implement for mass vaccination, this vaccine is expected to contribute to a rapid reduction in the epidemiological and economic burden of dengue fever in Vietnam in the near future.
