The Vietnamese student team participating in the International Physics Olympiad won 2 gold medals and 3 silver medals.
Notably, both gold medals were won by two students from Bac Giang Specialized High School, Bac Giang province: Than The Cong and Truong Phi Hung, both 12th-grade students.
The three silver medals were awarded to the following students: Nguyen Nhat Minh, 12th grade, High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences , University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi); Ha Duy Phuc, 12th grade, Lam Son High School for Gifted Students (Thanh Hoa); and Nguyen Thanh Duy, 12th grade, Tran Phu High School for Gifted Students (Hai Phong City).
The 54th International Physics Olympiad was held in Iran from July 21-29. According to the IPhO 2024 regulations, the competition consisted of one theoretical exam and one experimental exam. Each exam lasted five hours.
This year's exam was considered excellent and challenging, with both the theoretical and practical sections closely related to real-life situations and touching upon applications of modern science and technology. To win a gold medal, contestants had to be in the top 8% of highest-scoring participants.
The Ministry of Education and Training announced that with 100% of its students winning medals, including 2 gold medals and 3 silver medals, the Vietnamese team is among the countries with the highest results at the 2024 International Physics Olympiad.
This year's results are also better than in 2023 (in 2023, the Vietnamese team won 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal). This year, the practical exam scores of Vietnamese students have improved significantly compared to the AphO and IPhO competitions in recent years.
