According to a report from the Hai Phong Department of Health , the lunch for workers at Song Cam Shipbuilding Joint Stock Company, located in Ngo Hung village, An Hong commune, An Duong district, took place at 11:30 AM on June 27, 2024.
The workers had lunch at the company with a meal consisting of: braised chicken, peanuts fried in oil, braised sea fish, betel leaf rolls, boiled zucchini, water spinach soup, rice, and watermelon for dessert. After lunch, at 12:22 PM, about 100 people showed symptoms of facial and body rashes, headaches, and a few cases of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea…
Reportedly, the lunch at the aforementioned company consisted of a total of 795 meals, divided into two menus. Of these, 400 meals included braised mackerel, betel leaf rolls, zucchini, water spinach soup, rice, and watermelon; the remaining meals included braised chicken, peanuts, zucchini, water spinach soup, and watermelon.

By 4 PM on the same day, 127 workers had been transferred to Viet Tiep Hospital, International General Hospital, and An Duong District Health Center for treatment and health monitoring (including 69 at Viet Tiep Hospital, 30 at International General Hospital, and 28 at An Duong District Health Center); at Song Cam Shipyard, 51 workers with mild symptoms (itching, facial redness, mild headache, etc.) were being monitored at the company.
According to an investigation and a preliminary report from Song Cam Shipbuilding Company, most of the workers exhibiting these symptoms had consumed a meal menu that included braised sea fish.
The workers' health is currently stable.
Immediately after receiving information about the incident, the Director of the Department of Health directed relevant units to be ready to receive patients, assess and categorize cases, and regularly monitor treatment in clinical departments. They focused on mobilizing skilled doctors, ensuring sufficient medication and emergency equipment, and providing timely treatment and care for patients.
Closely monitor critically ill patients and those at risk of worsening conditions, be prepared to consult with higher-level facilities or refer them to other facilities when necessary, while also providing care, support, and encouragement to the patient and their family.
The investigating organization will determine the cause of the incident in accordance with regulations, trace the origin of the food, and collect food and biological samples for testing to determine the cause.
Strictly handle any violations of food safety regulations (if any) and publicly disclose the results to promptly warn the community.
