Practical actions for a bright, green, clean, and beautiful Nam Tam commune.

In Nam Tam commune, environmental protection was once one of the most difficult criteria to achieve in building new rural areas. However, thanks to the efforts of the Party committee, the government, and the people of the commune, the environmental landscape has improved; and the people have a correct understanding of their role and responsibility in protecting the environment.

The people of Nam Tam commune join hands to protect the environment.

Ms. Dang Thi Mai Huong from Nam Tam 1 village shared: "Since the implementation of the New Rural Development program, the appearance of the locality has changed dramatically compared to before; the lives of the people have improved significantly. In particular, the problem of littering on the roads has disappeared, replaced by bright, clean, and beautiful streets."

To promote the role of women in the community, the Women's Union of the commune has implemented many practical activities in environmental protection and landscape construction such as: the "Green Sunday" movement, planting and caring for flower-lined roads; disseminating information, guiding, and mobilizing people living in all 26 villages to sort waste at source, renovate houses, and clean livestock pens.

During women's association meetings, in addition to their professional duties, the women also share experiences and tips on growing flowers, keeping their homes clean, sorting plastic waste, and raising well-behaved children. This contributes to spreading the message of green, clean, and beautiful living to each member household. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu (an official of the Women's Union of Nam Tam commune) said: "In recent years, propaganda work has been identified as a regular task of the Women's Union of the commune. Especially after the merger of the commune-level administrative units, we have intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts among women in the villages to effectively implement the '5 No's, 3 Cleanliness' model. The women have become aware that their families must have toilets, and their homes must always be kept clean."

Officials from the Women's Union of the commune are educating female members' families on sorting waste at home.

To improve the effectiveness of environmental protection at the grassroots level, Nam Tam commune aims to create a strong shift in awareness and action among the entire political system and the people in the commune in preventing and addressing environmental pollution. The commune People's Committee has issued many clear plans and regulations on waste collection and treatment. Simultaneously, it has contracted with units to collect waste twice a week, ensuring a clean environment. In particular, the commune has focused on waste sorting at source, from household waste to pesticide packaging and industrial waste, in order to minimize environmental impact and save on treatment costs.

The "Green Sunday" movement has been launched and maintained regularly. Every weekend morning, each group and each village simultaneously mobilizes to clean village roads, clear drainage ditches, plant trees, and collect waste. To date, 100% of the villages in the commune have established self-governing environmental sanitation teams. Each team is responsible for monitoring, reminding, and encouraging villagers to collect waste according to regulations.

Mr. Bui The Dung, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: "Since implementing the two-tiered local government model, the commune has contracted with a unit to collect household waste in the villages twice a week. For agricultural waste, especially pesticide packaging, the commune has arranged collection points and collection tanks for centralized processing. We also coordinate with the Youth Union and the Women's Union of the commune to encourage people to participate in the 'Green Sunday' movement to collect garbage, clean village roads and alleys, and create a green, clean, and beautiful environment. In the long term, the commune has developed a plan for a waste collection and treatment site."

Nam Tam commune has effectively implemented environmental protection measures and built clean and beautiful roads.

Environmental protection is not only a state management responsibility, but more importantly, it is the responsibility and obligation of every agency, unit, family, and individual citizen. The environmental protection models being implemented in Nam Tam commune are not only effective solutions for improving the living environment, but also demonstrate the solidarity and responsibility of the people in building an increasingly green, clean, beautiful, sustainable, and livable local environment.
